Turning Point USA aligning themselves with Cunningham should answer any lingering questions abt the impact of her statements & the groups who are rallying behind her. Somehow, I still don't think people will wake up to the reality bc transphobia is still an acceptable form of bigotry to most people.

The Cunningham piece and the Briles piece both dropping today show the problem with access in (sports) journalism. The problem isn't that either person was interviewed. It's that journalists them didn't press them hard at all, on anything. Which is why they were allowed to ask questions.

I've been thinking about what bothers me about all the puff pieces about Cunningham, and other than the obvious, I'm really stuck on why there's a need to platform someone who already has a popular podcast. she has a way to reach her people.

i’m not sure whether normies and non-sports fans understand the extent to which right-wing weirdos are waging their culture war through the WNBA right now

The San Jose Earthquakes have hired former Thorns president Gavin Wilkinson. He was fired in 2022 after the Yates Report found failures in his handling of abuse involving former Thorns coach Paul Riley. Bay FC—who shares facilities with the Earthquakes—issued a statement denouncing the hiring.

Has anyone explained to the league or teams that XX-XY Athletics is a hate group? If they wouldn’t allow swastikas or Proud Boys to promote their views at a game, they shouldn’t allow this group’s messaging either.

Reports have emerged of fans allegedly being asked to cover XX-XY Athletics shirts at last night’s Fever vs. Dream game. A WNBA spokesperson shared with USA TODAY the below statement. Story to come.

given what we know about jordan angeli she should not be allowed to continue commentating on nwsl games, let alone games featuring players she's potentially bigoted towards

I'm sorry, but if you spend a whole paragraph defending Sophie Cunningham having the opinion that trans women in sports is akin to hurting young girls you cannot be mad when the political machine driving that public opinion uses media attention to demean the league. This genuinely made me furious.

Sports are supposed to be a diversion, something we consider fun, a reprieve from real life. But the constant cycle of WNBA controversies has made it feel like psychological warfare just to engage with the league: nyti.ms/4gp53HA
