Attention anti-tax politicians: even in red states voters know the money has to come from somewhere. They even understand the difference between progressive and regressive taxation. I mean REALLY.

Missouri Amendment 5
Election Results: Eliminate
Income Tax
This amendment would eliminate state income taxes, which would make Missouri the 10th state in the country without them. In fiscal year 2025, money from individual income taxes made up more than 60 percent of the state's general revenue.

Voters overwhelmingly rejected the measure, which would have authorized lawmakers to replace lost income tax revenue by driving up sales taxes. The result is a loss for Gov. Mike Kehoe, a Republican who prioritized the measure, and the Republican-led Legislature, which put it on the ballot.Election map showing "no" carried EVERY MISSOURI COUNTY, heavily

For the record: NOPE. Honestly, I don’t think there’s an issue today I care about on a personal level more deeply than trans rights. And it’s rough out there right now. Bigots on one side of the political aisle and too many cowards on the other. ⬇️

Maybe I'm biased living in a state (WA) with a functional public health system, but given the circumstances, I actually think the nation responded quite well to Covid. Made mistakes, but we'll learn from those and do better next time... assuming we're not being run by sociopaths like Trump & RFK jr.

It couldn't be clearer what's happening with local legacy media trashing Mayor Wilson: the reactionary centrist majority is about to melt away & they're trying to bake in a narrative that she has fucked up in some catastrophic--but also indefinable--way, to hamstring the coming progressive majority

I find it impossible to articulate how much I resent spam texts like these trying to guilt me into responding so that they can determine if I'm a live target. Way more intrusive than the actual spam trying to steal from me or sell me something.

A text message from an unknown number asking "Why do my calls keep failing when I try to reach you? Did you block me?"

The amount of taxes we pay to the feds compared to what we get in return is outrageous. This needs much more attention, including from our businesses. The reason we keep increasing local taxes (the only ones we can keep 100%) is because so much of our state & fed taxes are going elsewhere.

"In 2025 Washington state paid $69.3 billion more in federal taxes than it received back in funding." My latest for #Cascadia Journal: www.cascadia-journal.com/as-feds-hold...

How stupid is our health care "system"? My insurance would only preauthorize a prescription through Accredo, the online specialty pharmacy associated with ExpressScripts. The "amount billed" was $4,376.96. (No way to know what insurer paid.) $67.07 at GoodRX, $40.26 from Cost Plus Drugs. WTF?

TikTok has incredible moderation team. Our InfoWars video about Multiple Horse Theory — the idea that there are many horses in the world and not just one — has been fully deemed misinformation and lost the formal appeals process. Confirmed by Larry Ellison: There is only one horse on Earth.

Here's one idea: bar guns and patrol the grounds with gun-sniffing dogs. Large fines and suspended permits for violators with otherwise valid permits, mandatory prison sentences for anybody illegally carrying. It's random. But the risk would be a real deterrent. (And dogs are less racist than cops.)

"Freedom"...? There's a cost to barring guns at food truck festivals in terms of freedom? WTF? In defense of Danny, he doesn't write the headline or the kicker and this "freedom" concern doesn't appear in the column, so this disgrace is squarely on the editors. Do better, Seattle Times!

Seattle Times headline and kicker:

Bar guns from Seattle Center? That should be an easy one | Danny Westneat

There are costs to barring guns from Seattle Center at big events, in both freedom and finances. But it's still an obvious choice in gun-crazed America.

What we do know is that the existence of a Jewish state post-1948 has failed to reduce the situation of Jewish existential anxiety that it promised through normalization, and also that far more Jews have been killed for being Jews in the state of Israel than out of it post-1948.
