On the Saturday of a long weekend, Carney’s government quietly took a major step forward in its push to build a new oil pipeline to West Coast. Even as Canada burns, they plan to allow the project to ignore VERY IMPORTANT rules so they can Build Baby Build. But you can have a say about it!

"Nolan’s film is not a misbegotten attempt to modernize a classic—it is a deft and purposeful reflection of America in this moment, seen through the glass of mythological metaphor." Jeff Yang writes about THE ODYSSEY and the “people from the sea.”
Saw my novella Sleep Walk advertised on the NYT front page this morning! books.friesenpress.com/store/title/....
Heading to Pincher Creek, Alberta, and making sure to pack some copies of my novella - especially since it's set there! 🥰
never thought short form video would be able to capture a type of humor i can only describe as “the far side-esque” but this comes close.
The IMF says we pay $5T/year to subsidize fossil fuels — that's $13M per MINUTE to destroy our future. Meanwhile solar & wind fight for scraps. We don't have a funding problem. We have a priority problem.
I'd argue that the EA buyout will be as harmful to the American economy and entertainment industry as the Ellison merger would be.
I know it’s easier to believe these are scams- but they’re not. People in Gaza have smartphones and access to socials while they’re being threatened and killed. This is the reality of it all. They are asking for the most basic things.
Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.
I think it also revealed just how quickly a bunch of otherwise very hard problems can be to solve with global collective action. The fuckin Ganga was running clear water for the only time in my lifetime because for 2 weeks nobody threw garbage in it. The canals in Venice had fish.

Just to be clear on this article, the position I took isn't "developers need to be more brave" but "funding needs to be more brave". Developers make all the cool stuff, just because they want to - the funding side hits it with market research and fear and growth targets and shareholders.
We need games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Balatro, and Peak as a cure for the "fear" in the industry, say experts www.gamesradar.com/games/we-nee...
I am making it a habit to always look for the labor story behind these nasty scandals. The consumers are almost never the only ones being harmed.
The Diarrhea Lettuce Company Has Been Linked to Forced Labor
The lettuce-producing Taylor Farms was linked to the widespread use of prison labor before its involvement in a cyclospora outbreak.

The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.

This gets a lot more legible if you stop thinking of prisons as a failed effort to reduce harm and start thinking of them as a supply chain for involuntary labor
It was inevitable that reactionary centrists would turn against harm reduction and call for a return to mass incarceration

Let me write a 1979 season. Four episodes with real 1979 actor likenesses. Eartha Kitt, Donald Sutherland, Vincent Price, who knows who else. Show-accurate music, fashion, dialogue.

There has been a surge in violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank in recent days, but “the pogroms have been a constant feature of settlers, of armed Israeli civilians, since before October 2023,” says U.N. special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territory Francesca Albanese.
