The core argument is that cities like Seattle are so addled by left-wing ideology that they have fallen into dystopia. In reality, the city has never adequately funded harm reduction programs and continues to rely on incarceration to address homelessness. What Powell wants is what we're doing.

Powell interviews a local anti-homeless ghoul who notes that encampment sweeps don't result in meaningful change because homeless people just return a few days later. Yes, Michael. What is the solution to this? We should just incarcerate them forever for being homeless?

Same DA that dropped charges against Torrance police officers who killed an unarmed black man. And same DA who was supported and endorsed by CA Senate candidate Brian Goldsmith

In my latest, I talk with @silkys13.bsky.social about the struggle against ICE. How are the government’s tactics shifting, and how must we respond? We also discuss the tremendous victory of fighting off the warehouse model for the regime’s concentration camps, and where the fight goes from here.

The Fight Against ICE Has Entered a New Phase

LA’s housing crisis is a disaster of our own making: “A city audit found that across all 41.18 enforcement operations from 2021 through 2024, only two unhoused individuals transitioned to permanent housing through these efforts — at an administrative cost exceeding $3 million.”

“The expectation that families would divide themselves to preserve access to housing assistance ignores the limitations of fear & the strength of family bonds.” HUD’s efforts to end support for mixed-status families will undermine housing stability & ruin lives, warns David Arias in an op-ed.

HUD's efforts to end support for mixed-status families will ruin lives

HUD's proposed rule will ingrain discriminatory policies and make mixed-status households more economically vulnerable

I don't want to hear politicians running on "we need to see each other as neighbors again" bullshit. No I want you to run on expanding the commons and offering actual SPACES in communities where people can gather across differences. That means no rhetoric but ACTUAL $$$ invested.

One thing that is apparent to those of us who study social movements is how often they lose & how quickly those losses are forgotten when they have big wins. Go back and watch Milk & see how often he lost. It’s eye opening. 🗃️

Very thankful for this letter to Becky Pepper-Jackson (the 16 year-old trans girl SCOTUS ruled against yesterday) from James Dale, a gay man whose expulsion from the Boy Scouts was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2000.

In light of recent news about Cesar Chavez's extensive sexual abuse of women and girls, how do movements prevent this behavior in the future? Chicana activists reflect on building protective, democratic structures for social justice work. @rosalindjones.bsky.social knock-la.com/farmworkers-...

if you have feelings about SCOTUS after today, and after the last week, and after the last months and years, remember that at least you can vote for state supreme courts in many places this year, and those matter a ton too my state-by-state guide to every state supreme court contest:

Abortion, redistricting, and ballot access remain heated issues as voters face dozens of supreme court races across 32 states this year.

Also should be mentioned that Trump’s crypto haul is likely being used to launder money and at some point, if we fight our way out of this and the full story emerges, we’re likely to find that there has been a full-scale organized crime syndicate operating using American power.

The legal arguments for Trump's birthright citizenship executive order are vapid and embarrassing. Multiple lower court judges legit laughed DOJ lawyers out of the room. The fact that four Supreme Court justices twisted themselves into logical pretzels to buy it is a constitutional emergency.

The Constitution Is On Life Support

Four justices are prepared to stuff the Fourteenth Amendment’s promises in the garbage because Mister Trump demands it.

The Dem messaging is that the birthright citizenship ruling is an uncomplicated win for numerous reasons: 1) they never miss a chance to claim everything is fine 2) they never miss a chance to frame Trump as the sole problem & exonerate his accomplices

This birthright ruling is why I just refuse to tolerate all the Democrat garment rending over NY voters choosing progressive candidates. They are incapable of governing in this moment. The politics of appeasement and centrism gets us to a 5-4 decision on the constitutional question.
