My column on how capital becomes a death cult. Faced with a choice between profit and human life, the radical right chooses profit. Then it tries to persuade us that mass death is what we want. It's the new phase of climate denial: accept your fate, earthlings. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Murderous heat, an endangered food supply, decimated landscapes: embrace the Mediterranean life | George Monbiot

As climate disaster stares us in the face, the radical right says ‘Embrace the Mediterranean life’. Embrace death, more like it, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

I've been doing the BBC Couch to 5K, using their free app (I've fallen out of my running since lockdown and want to get back to that level). But my God. It's painful at times. Not the running, the voiceovers encouraging you. I really don't need all the "YOU'RE DOING SO WELL!" just say Run or walk!

A reminder that the absolute best thing you can do if you want to see more projects like this is to get involved and JOIN UVW. Money is great but volunteer time is infinitely more valuable and in short supply, plus you’ll meet amazing people and learn new things!

I’m fundamentally baffled by the utter insanity of “big business” in all the major entertainment industries not understanding basic business principles like, “skilled workforce” or “brain drain”. Unless this really is just the last move of “pile the gold in the boat before the dragon arrives”

Last RT: The Gen AI book destruction theft, is the most disheartening thing I’ve heard in ages. AI companies literally destroying books because there a better chance of getting away with it than copying them. This isn’t just criminal, it’s wrong on a moral and cultural level. Gen AI is crime.

I was reminded that Pluribus exists today. A show that at the same time manages to be one of the most interesting concept shows I’ve seen in years also one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve ever had as a viewer.

It’s nice to see everyone’s textual analysis of The Odyssey It’s almost like the humanities give you entertainment, feelings, pleasure, and fun/interesting stuff to talk about, as well as lenses into both past and current society

It’s kind of batshit to me, a guy who legit spent years doing a masters degree in Classics, now just seeing everyone and their auntie online suddenly proclaiming how they are an expert on The Odyssey because a film came out and they have Wikipedia.
