back in the olden days on twitter, i would say that there's no such thing as a good conservative, for obvious reasons. now that i spend my time on bluesky, i'm forced to conclude there's no such thing as a good liberal, either. you're either some flavor of anti-capitalist or a total piece of shit

for anyone who doesn't know, this is standard operating procedure at most corporations: - do something awful - appear to capitulate to customer backlash - wait for customers to get distracted - do the awful thing again

nothing changed, they made an estimate of the strength of their readers' principles and memory, and waited what they thought was a reasonable amount of time. now Image readers know what that estimate was

it's also a signal like the fucking maga red hats or a thin blue line flag or a rising sun flag or a totenkopf tattoo or calling yourself grand wizard not everyone will react overly but trust, many are watching and distancing themselves, or marking you down as someone they can't trust

JKR explicitly said she considers anything Potter-related, even fan-made, endorsement of her politics. And every time you engage with this franchise, you signal to the industry that there's still money in it and they should keep pumping out content from full-cast audiobooks to book box partnerships.

behaving as if all news that first blew up online is somehow equivalent to two high schoolers yelling at each other on an obscure fandom message board is the new "Fox anchor acts like it's still 1950, is shocked to learn that poor people own TVs and electric refrigerators"

Billions of people use the internet. I'm tired of pretending it is 2006. Rowling being a transphobic freak isn't some niche Twitter thing; it's been reported in major outlets and talked about across every social media network.

ultimately, the problem is that Roz's advice presumes (without admitting it) that bigots put us in danger because of what we do, rather than what we are. there is no behavioural change that will make us safe. not even going back into the closet. once you're out, you're marked for elimination

Roz, I know you're intelligent and you have life experience. I have to disagree with this nonetheless. It is pointless trying to suggest what trans people as a bloc should do, because we're not a bloc. We're too large and diverse a group to meaningfully organise.

yeah, The Lore of The Acolyte was crystal clear the problems were more fundamental. it was a season-long mystery, but the only reason it wasn't resolved in episode 2 is every character was like "i have questions, but i'll be damned before i let the people that i *know* have the answers talk to me"

what did anyone need to know? the sith are the baddies & the jedi are complacent arrogant centrists. they all have lightsabers & fight each other wuxia wire style. also there are lesbian anarchist space witches who just want to be left tf alone & the jedi genocide them anyways.

thinking about this today for no reason in particular,, cis people love to say they'll push back if the govt ever tried to round us up into camps but they quite literally cannot even SAVE THEMSELVES MONEY AND CANCEL A SUBSCRIPTION. they will not lift a finger to save us, y'all. we are all we have.

sent my friend of 20 years a text last week with a link to my NYT thread from a few weeks ago (that details the ways they're killing trans kids) with a request that he read it and, at the *bare minimum* cancel his sub to that transphobic rag. this was his response. we're ngmi, y'all i stg. 🙃

a text saying: "the tldr is that I always want to be here to support you, but u also wong stop reading the NY Times because while it's imperfect and i see their bias against trans people, it's a far distance from the hateful commentary that's seen on the right side, and good thoughtful mainstream journalism is hard to find.

options are basically WaPo (a little left for me), WSJ (too right and too focused on money which doesn't hold my interest) and the NYT. I would say that there are red lines that would cause me to stop paying for news from them but I don't see a world where that truly happens.

I hate saying the same thing over and over, but I’m right: the agents from The Matrix are the perfect metaphor for transphobia. Any cis person can, without warning, make “gender cop” their entire personality; and once they do, there is no limit to the level of violence they will wield against you.

You have to somehow come to terms with the fact that there is nobody in the world who, the moment it's convenient, won't switch off their own sense that you are human and start breaking you down with a circular saw like a rotting wooden flight of stairs.
