Its difficult to put my my anger over this into words. The modern Backrooms was born from the collective effort of thousands. That collaboration, all that passion/time was freely given because it made people happy. Now its being monetized. Its exactly like Ai and the internet.

the problem with the games industry is that it makes money in a sustainable way by creating stuff that people want to pay for this is in contrast to how big capital would prefer to make money, by trying to scale fake numbers to infinity using gambler brained investors lured in by impossible claims

I miss movie tie-in games and I think we should bring them back. And I mean proper ol' fashioned, day-and-date with the movie games, not after-the-fact stuff like RoboCop: Rogue City and the like. Yeah, they were mediocre-to-bad 90% of the time, but it was worth it for the few gems that weren't:

i've seen too many good video game opinions today, time for some bad ones what is your take that will have you like this?

Crusty Star Fox is cool Nintendo's house style has become so thoroughly ossified that it's neat to see them branching out (also it genuinely looks good imo)

Hey, #portfolioday I'm Eric. I do environments and props and characters and whatnot for games. I'm a style glutton and perpetually on the hunt for projects that push me out of my comfort zone. Here's a few recent things folk paid me to make.

Side view of a wrecked forge. The wall has collapsed revealing the rotund forge with various tracks for minecarts and whatnot. A gobo sits in a minecart in the background teetering on the brink of a bent track.A scene of a bright beach. On the left a ship is lodged in a mass of barnacles, on the right a whale-like submarine has burst open and disgorged its cargo, along with a slick of normal map colors. Wrecked ships dot the sea in the distance.Various designs for some sort of monster spawner. In the center of the image is the final version: a yawning tent with spikes and blades in the shape of an intimidating face. Inside the monsters are getting hopped up on goofballs.Four heroes walk towards the viewer. In the background is a big big tower. In the foreground are some round, marketable creatures.

If yall want a great read on healthy studio culture and what classic concept feels like to make; educational, exploratory, and collaborative. Take a read. Also Sam rocks and his ideas on spooky shit slap.

So I want to share a story about my favorite concept in our latest game, The Killing Stone, and how strong art direction recognizes the potential of an idea and can empower artists working to capture it.

Towerborne Art Blast! I was the Environment Lead at Stoic for almost 5 years. Working on this game with the environment crew has truly been a career highlight for me. Images are from the rare opportunities I got to contribute, alongside leading all of the incredible artists listed below!
