We have money to murder Iranian children but not to feed America children. That's bullshit, we all know it's bullshit, but every time we have an election, the left gets told to slow down and breathe and moderate, and the right says Anakin was right and stormtroopers should finish the Tusken people.
Instead of investing this kind of money in AI we could have done all the other things, they just wouldn't have made baby faced fascist billionaires into elder vampire fascist trillionaires.
Hear me out: Instead of messing around with clocks, what if everyone worked a shorter workday in the wintertime? We overload the winter months with holidays and extra events in the winter when other animals hibernate. And then we wonder why people get sick.
Co-signed Honestly, I think anyone in the academy who is excited about using "AI" to do their work should leave and make room for people who actually are interested in actually creating and sharing knowledge.
We can’t let thinking of that level of depth disappear, and sorry but fuck the AI corporate invasion of academic work. I got into this racket to take my mind into new places, and to try to develop a novel perspective to solve problems. No one is allowed to simulate my experience of thought for me.
Ah shit if this traffic jam isn’t mutable I’m never getting out of here
Perhaps you should restrict your predictions of revolutions to your own fields. Because all I see in my field so far: students using gAI to cheat on a catastrophic scale; AI destroying trust between faculty and students; and reviewers feeding unpub work into LLMs out of sheer laziness.
Two things are true: 1. Claims about AI capabilities are overblown 2. AI has completely revolutionized software development, and will do the same to many other fields I'm a software developer by trade. I'm going to attempt to explain what this revolution feels like "from the inside".
Hi, there aren’t weird creeps waiting to put drugs in your kid’s candy bucket! The major dangers are cars and drunk driving. - go out with your kiddo - avoid bulky masks or costumes that block peripheral vision - stay out of the street - have them carry a light and something reflective
Oh man, I just heard the best term for using an AI chatbot. Cognitive surrender. An absolutely perfect description of what's going on.
can we have a week where everyone agrees to just not move or do anything
When engineers say we don't want to give people walking or bicycling a "false sense of security," what they mean is that we only care that drivers feel secure. So we design streets so drivers get to feel secure in knowing they can drive with minimal attention or care for anyone outside their car.
So excited about this! GazeR is now a shiny app (notice the corneal reflection ;))! I hope this makes it easier for folks to use with their pupil data. Please report features you want or bugs. github.com/jgeller112/s...
USIANS PAY ATTENTION!! WE BEAT META, WE BEAT YOUR BIG TECHS!! IT IS POSSIBLE!!
Looking forward to the first show that uses a brief glimpse of a character's phone set to light mode to foreshadow that they can't be trusted
Every CEO anecdote about using AI is them telling a story about how terrible they are at being a human being. Its just a nonstop run of the biggest loser shit.
do you want to understand other people or do you want to be right online?
AI proponents cling to the idea that the tech is going to enable boundless creativity, but I've seen what it enables; endless spam. It's enabled people without a single ounce of creativity in their bodies to make endless Balatro clones, genuinely no thoughts of their except Balatro but slop.
We're going to hollow out every industry and the few remaining ones will be evil. Everyone will be miserable but a few horrible assholes will be trillionaires so it's worth it
Consumer facing “A.i.” is a product made by fascists to push fascism.
"Our democracy depends on citizens who can evaluate arguments, reason independently, and hold those in power accountable. When we let AI do this work for us, we risk our self-governance." — Wesleyan University's Sebastian Zimmeck in @thehill.com #ai
the one thing I have resolutely given up on is managing someone else's emotions in professional environments: It is simply not my job and you cannot make me
"That news came nearly a month after news broke that the AI company was bragging to investors that it was profitable — although only if you used a special accounting method that stripped out most of its expenses." I stg man, that's not just called "fraud" anymore?
"Not good enough. It's over."
All you Libby users borrowing digital books and audiobooks through your library cards, you can set your preferences to human authors and artists ONLY. Click the middle button at the bottom, then "Content Controls" under Settings. You'll find "AI Contributions" there. Click in to it to make changes.

steal our work to create AI models that produce work that sounds like us because they stole it, then feed our work into more models that sometimes flags our work as too similar to the work produced by the models that stole our work in order to produce work that sounds like us.
I hate the entire consumer-facing "A.i." industry so much. Just unrelenting, massive social damage and extraction. A deeply repugnant, immoral, anti-human business.
Still trying to understand how Napster got shut down, but Anthropic is going public and still hasn’t paid us authors yet after stealing our work.
