I want to get my soon to be 9th grader a backpack that will last through high school and beyond. What brands are still making high quality/durable bags? They don’t seem to have to carry many books so it’s going to mostly be his laptop and supplies.

Why can't I download a single PDF for a book on JSTOR? It's not edited, but a single author monograph. But I can only download all 8 chapters, and introduction, and references, and index as separate files. Has it always been this way?
An excellent thread on how the gaming industry purge of human expertise follows what's happened elsewhere (including knitting)! But especially this part. Be a citizen of the Skilled World and learn how to make things. #DHmakes
Some people see all the things I try to do—writing, cooking, singing, drawing, academic research, dyeing yarn and other fibre art projects—as unrelated pursuits. I don’t. I am just a committed citizen of the Skilled World. Doing things myself—however well or badly—is my act of resistance.
Summer is the time for those projects that have been hanging out for…a while. 📚 Random box of journals and data that pre-dates me has finally come to the front of the queue. Figuring out if this data is anywhere else. Someone actually got it off the disks in 2012.
I need an epic Emily Gilmore take-down of Tweenie Halpern for supporting the ban.

I stopped by the Third Iron booth yesterday at #alaac and they were determined to show me their new LLM related feature. It's a banner than shows up on the home page of Gemini or Chatgpt (you choose domain) and gives guidance or reference. (1/)
I've been gathering some articles on #qualitative research, #qualdata and AI. www.zotero.org/groups/65966... If you know of any that are missing/key to read, let me know!

Last month two library workers reached out to Public Collectors to ask about making a booklet version of Fobazi Ettarh's essay "Vocational Awe and Librarianship: The Lies We Tell Ourselves" for a Celebration of Life event. We did, and it is now available for all: halfletterpress.com/vocational-a...
Faculty meeting ends with an “Ope we are going to the basement now” as the sirens go off.
This whole thread but this in particular 😱
He kept coming back, repeatedly (in the way AI often loops) to this idea of AI (specifically Claude) representing "a position without an address", and it became increasingly clear to me that there was some odd mystification happening. Of course LLM products have an address. It's a corporate address.

I was looking through the Open Textbook Library (as one does) to see if there was anything new of interest and saw that there is a work in progress plus-size garment development open.umn.edu/opentextbook... #oer

"The key point is that summary-and-cite AI tools are performative. Since visibility begets visibility, they help enact the world they purport to merely describe" 📚
I'd missed this Jefferson Pooley LSE blog piece, "The Matthew effect in AI summary." blogs.lse.ac.uk/impactofsoci... Really interesting to see him using Merton in it like I did in my "KULA" piece (doi.org/10.18357/kul...). Brainwave!
Spooky data stories at #IASSIST2026! "Research Data Scarytales" turns stories about RDM mistakes into a community game. Everyone makes mistakes, and such initiatives help improve our error culture imo. Very cool! Check it out here: forschungsdaten-thueringen.de/rdm-scarytal...

An incredibly sobering study about the impact of federal actions on the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System. If you are concerned about maternal and infant health, you need to let people know what is happening. Speak out about data access. maternalchild.uic.edu/news-stories...

❤️ @lyndamk.bsky.social speaks about her, the @datarescueproject.org's, and @icpsr.bsky.social's tremendously important work. As fascism is on the rise, #data and #DataLibrarians work becomes even more crucial! #IASSIST2026 #PyjamaIASSIST2026
I love how @lyndamk.bsky.social is sharing how much of our work with data access, use, and preservation is civic work - goes beyond our institutions. #IASSIST2026
