Writing, food, drinks, Victoriana, Age of Sail, bad times in cold places, synths, Formula 1, fanfiction. Pretentious lefty jerk. She/her.

Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude

man this show…we clowned it. Don’t get me wrong. We sat there like beavis and butthead riffing on everything. “And now, for the 75th week in a row, it’s Dave Gahan in a crown on a hillside!” We also watched it absolutely every week, and it encapsulated the era

120 MINUTES was an absolute oasis in pre-internet pop culture. So many bands that you could ONLY find there (TV-wise) became ubiquitous online later (and relatively recently). A pioneer. consequence.net/2026/07/dave...

"better to lose with dignity than win unfairly" sounds like a hollow truism, the type of thing losers say to comfort themselves. maybe glorious failure is just something baked into European/British sports that doesn't translate to America. maybe it's better to try to win at all costs, I don't know.

Mark Twain hated the Fourth of July. He was often invited to speak at Independence Day festivities. His audiences assumed that his reliably unpatriotic remarks were tongue-in-cheek jests. But he meant that shit. 1/9

Our entire economy is being artificially propped up by astrology for men: AI, crypto, sports betting, and prediction markets. It's an economy shaped entirely by male insecurity and lack of impulse control, and we'll all pay the price.
