I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.

When we should be approaching the peak accumulation in snowpack across the West, conditions have instead further rapidly deteriorated. Another way to look at it: Colorado’s snow water equivalent has already reached a level that wasn’t seen until about a MONTH later in the previous worst record.

Graph of snow water equivalent in the state of Colorado for 2026 relative to climatological statistics since the 1980s. 2026 is current a record low around peak conditions typically in March and April.

I checked the claim of the DOE report that sea level is rising at a lower rate than predicted by IPCC: it is false. For 2030, the IPCC AR6 predicts a best estimate 9-10 cm relative to 1995-2014 (Table 9.9). The satellite data show a rise of 74 mm until 2025. At this rate that will be 93 mm by 2030.

Earth’s energy imbalance has more than DOUBLED in 20 years. So, just a gentle reminder that most of our politics & media is a distraction, because most of our politics & media is owned by the fossil-fueled corporations profiting from boiling us alive.

Don’t buy the polished crap from the White House. Texas flood deaths weren’t a surprise...they were the price of gutting services. Cut first responders...ignore warnings...and act shocked when people die? That’s not weather. That’s political manslaughter.
