The only time I find out who a youtuber is is when my partner gently explains to me what they do, so the idea that someone can get attached enough to a youtuber to respond to a rape allegation against one of them by navel-gazing about 'restorative justice' is like something from another planet to me

the funniest thing about all the kids who post "Magneto would support Palestine" is not that he most definitely would not, but that there is in fact one other Marvel villain who 100% would be proPal

my stance on fantasy vs sci-fi is that i think these are aesthetic labels that have gotten so broad that they're barely informative at all. the real slop genre is orc fiction. if there's an archetypal "orc species," a nuance-free inherently evil group of morally uncomplicated enemies, it's slop.

Very much hope this is the govt changing course and introducing the LDAN Bill. At the very least, explaining how they are going to achieve the aims of the bill without legislation.

I have genuinely never been to a lesbian event that was actually organized as a separatist space where only lesbians were allowed to participate. These are mythological constructs to me that straight up serve no other purpose than to bog down queer discourse in endless border politics.

It keeps setting me off - I'm being told I have to vote Labour to defend a liberal society that Labour itself refuses to defend Labour won't defend my trans self, immigrant friends & family, HE colleagues, disabled students That matters most to me, but Labour's golden boy couldn't care less!

The UK could have avoided shooting itself in the face in the first place, but people like Andy Burnham couldn't bring themselves to defend Eastern Europeans and so we are where we are

“this kind of rhetoric is demobilizing. You either make outsiders think you're crazy or you make insiders — in this case trans people — panic and demobilize themselves” 🎯

This is a good and important read and it really echoes a lot of worries I have about the information environment, doomerism and misinformation in the UK trans community context too

Recently, I did a wonderful interview with the indefatigable @emilystjams.bsky.social about trans people's online information environment and why there are very strong incentives to spread panic. It was a wide-ranging discussion that I think is more relevant than ever.

so many people's basic posture to the world is that they are supposed to engage with any given thing that gets put in front of them, even if critically, and i want to stress that you absolutely do not need to do that and also should not do that

in the mid aughts i had a gf who actually went to the mcdonalds website for some reason and spent 30m playing a flash game on there. i totally forgot about this until seeing you guys play with the donald trump white house chatbot reminded me
