Not my district, but c’mon man. I’ll be sending a letter to Parks about this (with a cc to the D3 councilors), but this is one of those moments where in the midst of the many ongoing policy challenges that Portlanders experience that have no near term solution, you don’t add some new pain like this

A total of 97 official complaints have been filed with the state regarding the Enhanced Community Safety initiative. State election officials say that’s the most complaints they’ve seen on a single petition since adopting a record-keeping system seven years ago.

DHS said that the woman CBP shot in the chest in Portland was “involved” in a gang shooting. Her ~involvement~ was that suspected gang members sexually assaulted and robbed her.

The current Portland City Councilors who are endorsed by the police union are: Smith (D1), Ryan (D2), Novick (D3), Zimmerman (D4), Clark (D4) Listing them because the Portland Police Association is making it a fight to have a masking ban (for law enforcement) and a tear gas ban.

Just experienced the most intense tear gassing of my life by federal officers outside the ICE facility in Portland where marchers gathered. There was no fast exit as they indiscriminately threw loads of gas and flash bangs. Children were in the crowd screaming. @oregoncapitalchronicle.com

I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.

Conflicting info about whether Pretti was murdered by ICE or CBP makes it clear that ICE is not single "rogue agency" ICE, CBP and ALL policing & borders must be abolished. This isn't just one agency; its an entire infrastructure of carceral control, illegalization & criminalization, and fascism.

they're executing moms and nurses in the street. they're using preschoolers as bait. they're stealing people's dads and grandmas and children. they're tear gassing babies. they're staking out schools. there is no remedy but abolition. any proposal that doesn't start there is an act of violence.

They shot an unarmed mother in the face in front of her wife then called her a “fucking bitch”. They kidnapped a five year old and used them as bait. They deported a two year old despite a judge’s orders. They maced, pistol whipped, and disarmed a nurse legally carrying then shot him nine times.

People are being executed in the street over a problem that straight up does not exist and both parties are complicit in the lie
