I set a goal for myself to try hitting 5K subscribers this year. I'm probably not going to hit that, but the Octopath video has gotten me pretty close to 3K, so that's pretty cool.

Guess how long ago 2018 was! That's right, it's been 8 years. Which means it's been 8 years since Octopath Traveler 1 released, so that's a great excuse to look at the original game that contributed quite a lot to the resurgence of traditional console JRPGs. I don’t want this point to be lost in the discourse. Going digital-only means inequity for people who cannot afford internet or constantly purchasing new games. Libraries provide opportunities for people to experience games they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford, and that will be lost.

The death of physical media seems like a small thing practically but in essence it represents the total dissolution of games as “objects of art” and instead reduces them purely to “intellectual property”. It’s a slow disaster but if you care about games as an art form it IS a disaster.
