Aspiring YouTuber, artist, baker, model kit maker, researcher, writer, probably several other things I didn't think of when writing this.

If you've got even an ounce of a soul in your body, you don't touch anything by ModRetro. It's too intrinsically linked to Palmer Luckey and his cohorts. I know the vast majority of you haven't and won't, but it's always worth a fresh reminder.

The chintzy-looking M64 clone console of the N64 by a company named ModRetro has been released, I think, I don't pay attention that closely to shit. But as the great @frankcifaldi.bsky.social posted before, it is our civic duty to push back against this company and shun ANYONE who doesn't.

I set a goal for myself to try hitting 5K subscribers this year. I'm probably not going to hit that, but the Octopath video has gotten me pretty close to 3K, so that's pretty cool.

Hey, so today is actually Octopath's 8th anniversary... yeah, I posted this a few days early. Still, if you haven't checked out the video yet, or would like to share it around, here it is! The series ended up doing a lot of great stuff, and it all started here.

Guess how long ago 2018 was! That's right, it's been 8 years. Which means it's been 8 years since Octopath Traveler 1 released, so that's a great excuse to look at the original game that contributed quite a lot to the resurgence of traditional console JRPGs. Take a look if you're interested! Link⬇️

The family and friends of Mexican animator Luis de la Rosa, who tragically passed away during the Annecy Festival, are asking for support to help cover travel expenses and repatriate his body. A GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched for anyone who would like to help: gofund.me/ae1944d68

I don’t want this point to be lost in the discourse. Going digital-only means inequity for people who cannot afford internet or constantly purchasing new games. Libraries provide opportunities for people to experience games they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford, and that will be lost.

My child loves going to the library and checking out a new video game every week. Going digital only eliminates libraries as a way people can access games.

The death of physical media seems like a small thing practically but in essence it represents the total dissolution of games as “objects of art” and instead reduces them purely to “intellectual property”. It’s a slow disaster but if you care about games as an art form it IS a disaster.
