Today, we remembered Marwa El-Sherbini at the institute and in front of the regional court, where a new stele commemorates Marwa. Marwa, the wife of former MPI-CBG PhD student Elwy, was stabbed to death and Elwy got injured at an appeal hearing in the Court. Our thoughts are with her family.

Heartfelt congratulations to our new PhD student Silja Zedlitz on receiving the Rainer Rudolph Award 2025 for her MSc thesis in the lab of @kjohnsson.bsky.social on minimal rhodamine probes for protein labeling in cells. @hymanlab.bsky.social @mpi-cbg.de @gbmev.bsky.social @mpi-mr.bsky.social
It’s incredibly hard to study lipids in biological membranes on the nanoscale. You need near-perfect information on both membrane ultrastructure and lipid density. Lipid-CLEM, now out in @natcellbio.nature.com brought to you by @mathilda95.bsky.social changes that: www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Researchers from @merihuchlab.bsky.social, together with colleagues from @labshevchenko.bsky.social and clinicians from Dresden and Leipzig developed a patient-specific human periportal liver assembloid. Publication in @nature.com. Full news: www.mpi-cbg.de/news-outreac...

The Lab of Stephan Grill at MPI-CBG has finally made it to Bluesky and we also have a brand new homepage: grill-lab.org Check it out.
We had a good line up of speakers at the 50 years anniversary meeting of the german society of cell biology @dgz.bsky.social in Heidelberg. Tony gave the plenary, Koichiro talked about spatial control of P granules and Silja received a price for her Master thesis and gave a talk. Congratulations!
Congratulations to our PhD student David @rnadavid.bsky.social for his successful defense of his PhD thesis! @mpi-cbg.de imprs.mpi-cbg.de As you see the lab was very creative with his hat! David gave his insights on the nucleocapsid protein and even better arranged a great buffet for celebrations!
Lipid imaging on the cover of @nature.com! Great times for lipid cell biology indeed. And a fantastic recognition of all the hard work by the team, especially Juan M. Iglesias-Artola and Kristin Böhlig (who made the cover). Link to article: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Have a look at Lars @larshubatsch.bsky.social reviewed preprint in @elife.bsky.social and learn about the kinetics of molecule transport across interfaces of condensates!
Paper alert!🧪 We derive a theory that underpins interface resistance with a physical foundation and look at how it changes droplet growth and recovery kinetics! Awesome collab with @bosste.bsky.social Tyler Harmon @hymanlab.bsky.social @m-pol.bsky.social and Frank Jülicher @mpipks.bsky.social 1/4
Congratulations to Patrick and his team! Tremendous work carried out over the last years @mpi-cbg.de and @poldresden.bsky.social as collaboration between Hyman lab, Brugues lab and Andrei Shevchenko
Patrick's paper is finally out, a label-free method to measure the composition of multicomponent biomolecular condensates!
This is an amazing piece of work! It was a true pleasure seeing this story come together. @mpi-cbg.de going on a streak of @nature.com papers!
Dresden researchers @paveltomancak.bsky.social @bruvellu.bsky.social, Carl Modes, @cuencam15.bsky.social & colleagues published in @nature.com that a tissue fold in fruit fly embryos buffers mechanical stresses & may have evolved in response to mechanical forces. www.mpi-cbg.de/news-outreac...

Dresden scientists @thegutmann.bsky.social and @rnadavid.bsky.social from the @hymanlab.bsky.social discover a new strategy used by the SARS-CoV-2 virus to hide from the body’s DNA immune detection system. Now published in @pnas.org. www.mpi-cbg.de/news-outreac...
How could SARS-COV-2 evade detection by host cells? Read the new paper from Theresia @thegutmann.bsky.social and David @rnadavid.bsky.social discussing how the nucleocapsid protein prevents recognition of the innate immunity sensor cGAS Congratulations!!!
Excited to share our latest work out in @pnas.org! We show that the #SARSCoV2 nucleocapsid protein directly prevents DNA recognition of the immune sensor #cGAS by competing for DNA, which may delay early innate immune responses during infection. www.pnas.org/doi/epub/10.... #innateimmunity
