This beautiful cocoon is built by “Fairy lamp spider” Agroeca brunnea. She weaves an inverted wine glass shaped egg sac from silk and covers in mud to disguise. Inside are two chambers, one for her eggs and the other a nursery. Amazing

Bambiraptor feinbergi. Possibly a valid genus… possibly a juvenile Saurornitholestes. Possibly none of the above. I spent far too long on this one. I hope it was worth it 🫠 If the scientists could avoid reclassifying Bambi before people have seen this, I’d appreciate it. 😉 #SciArt

I love finding old tree wounds, the leaking sap ferments into a yeasty mush that persists for years and is full of weird bugs. Here's a flat clown beetle, Hololepta sp, pulling a fly larva out of the muck. Western New York, last month.

Melanophoxus griffinii, a small conehead katydid from the Amazon region, trying to climb on my lens. This is one of the many challenges in shooting wide angle macro: you have to get very close, and for some animals this is an opportunity for them to go and explore your camera and flash system 😅
