Redefining "woke" to make it carry the full weight of its purported anecdotal excesses, while emptying it of its substantive origins, meanings and critiques is not coincidental. It is loadbearing to the project of delegitimizing those critiques, and getting past the discomfort and threat they posed.

The very idea of for-profit prisons is so thoroughly morally repellent that if they weren't real I'd swear the idea was from a 60s sci-fi novel that the author had used to illustrate how sick and broken the society was that the hero had to escape from.

Here is the full suspension letter from UGent that was sent to Nathan Cofnas, it shows ample reason for his suspension and potential termination. Including breach of contract, using the University of Ghent’s name and legitimacy to promote his racial supremacist views and causing reputational damage.
You cannot "just ask questions" about eugenics and racism and transphobia within a social and political context that actively supports the murder, social or otherwise, of the subjects of your inquiry. You can't "just ask questions" about the nature of a genocide when one is actively going on.
