FWIW, both of VDARE’s founders were on the masthead of the National Review in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Peter Brimelow was also a staffer for Senator Orrin Hatch. This white nationalist thread has been present in the conservative movement for a long time. Screenshot is from 1997.

I got paid $340 some-odd dollars a month for a 20+ hour a week second job that was a serious drag on the lives of everyone in my family. Also had friendships ruined in some cases for stuff that was decided by the state legislature or Congress. Do I regret it? Nope. But it isn't easy.
