Writing is such a painful compulsion and I don’t know why this is this one of the main things I love to do with my time? Like, I’m just going to suffer the act of dragging myself over to the desk to do some scribbling even though TV exists? Madness. Makes not one lick of sense. Fuck you, writing.

I want to talk about a project I’m working on so much but I guess I’m going to have to settle on this roundabout way of saying there’s something cool happening with cool and talented people and I’m there, too!

Finishing up a big freelance project this week then I'm ✨open for freelance video editing✨ nights and weekends for September. I cut the video for a multimillion $ Kickstarter campaign and am an expert on crowdfunding videos and algo-centric editing (along with comedy/video essay-style) so Hit Me Up

It gets to a point where you can't out-survive the state of things without losing your passion for what you do during the ever-growing extinction event transpiring before us unless an outside force greater than you changes things. I'm rapidly discovering my shelf life doing this is fast approaching.

people are leaving the games industry en masse. once you're fired, you're scrambling for work, and oftentimes people are forced out of it bc you can't find a job that can sustain you in the current economic climate. devs, journos, etc. are payed a laughably low wage as it is 90% of the time.

There's a bit about half way through where they talk about a freelancer who says something to the effect of "Can I invoice you this, I've never charged anyone this much before." and Reader I have been this freelancer. The first time I worked with MCDM on a few patreon encounters I was gobsmacked.

I will say; I do see folks in this space learning from MCDM. I think they're mostly new folks who can watch something like the Community video, and learn from it. I got a ton of messages from folks saying the Community video changed how they did things, but they're all people just getting started.

Blanket censoring the word “gambling” is literally a pro gambling move. Gambling platforms avoid the word for obvious reasons, so YouTube eliminating its use under the pretense of combating gambling is the best fucking cover a gambling platform could ask for. It’s pretty disgusting.

Commander Sterling@commandersterling.bsky.social · 10mo ago

YouTube removed another of my anti-videogame gambling videos for being pro-gambling. What a fucking farce of a website.

lets talk on big issue for artists, REVIEWS. lot of discussion on how to feel about these things when youve put so much work into your art. usually buds will assure you 'dont worry, that negative review is wrong,' but i disagree. i think it is important to remember that NEGATIVE REVIEWS are correct

oh god yeah, we're trying to do something different publish what we want, when we want, and offer professional editing and feedback for anyone who wants to do the same

Zombies. The undead. You know, ghouls.@edgarallanbro.bsky.social · last yr.

We had always planned to launch today, but it seems more necessary now than ever, so here goes: @brianbarnett.bsky.social, @hokutolucas.bsky.social, and I are launching an independent games website today called Skybox. You can read our welcome letter/mission statement here:

maddy helped me regain my confidence after years of abuse from other editors and i know for a fact i’m not the only person she’s supported in that way. she is a leader through and through.

Running out of gaming websites that I’m still willing and happy to visit. What a shit show of an industry. Employee-owned businesses are starting to seem like the only ethical, high quality options. Business bros can’t accomplish anything except personal enrichment at the expense of everything.

I can imagine a lot of people who published articles on Gamurs sites are rushing to back up their posts somewhere. Obviously there are a lot of ways to do this, but I liked using Obsidian and the web clipping tool. Formats nicely, includes meta data and images, and is easy to organize.
