looking to connect w/ someone at vice music, or any music-focused related outlets for a beat in relation to digital performers and their growing popularity internationally. if that's you, or if you know someone pls reach out! (respond, email, etc.)
Some radical transparency: we may only have a year left at our current pace. If you'd like to help us survive to reach our full potential, consider subscribing, donating, or buying a gift subscription.
State of the Rascal: August 2026 www.rascal.news/state-of-the...
It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better
realizing how little I did in July bc I was sick for two weeks and had stuff going on w/ my wisdom tooth
prepping for another flight to Europe and I'm not sure what books I want to bring or what movies I wanna watch this time around.
oh don't worry from what I hear publishers are absolutely out there right now demanding "the next balatro" in the form of gambling adjacent roguelikes with zero budget and expecting tens of millions of dollars in revenue
We need games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Balatro, and Peak as a cure for the "fear" in the industry, say experts www.gamesradar.com/games/we-nee...
can't believe rivals pro play is turning into GOATS lol everything is overwatch in the end
Sure, the internet makes us overfamiliar with each other, but it also makes us overfamiliar with expertise, too, I think. Every time I start feeling that smug know-it-all thing creeping in me, I have to remind myself I’m not a subject matter expert in anything.

I was just thinking about how "you need to become an influencer to sell books" is ruining everything
I hate how what I need to do is write books, and yet I keep thinking, "Maybe if I wore increasingly weird glasses and sat in front of my taxidermy with a bubble pipe and did unhinged houseplant reviews I could go viral and sell some books." Doing the work doesn't feel like enough, some days.
AI is robbing you of the opportunity to make this instead
The next time you consider making a flier with AI, please also consider that the most intriguing ad I’ve seen this week is a garage sale sign made of particle board with spray painted writing that reads, “GOOD SHIT —>”
it's actually sad as hell to use AI for research when research is the fun part. you can just email people and call them on the phone and ask them questions about the thing that they have expertise in. you can read documents & learn cool shit. ok now i'm just talking about how being a reporter is fun
literally nothing is worse than the well-meaning white person who tries to explain why they misgendered you after apologizing for misgendering you. i would literally just prefer the apology and moving on instead of making it a whole dialogue bc they feel bad. lmao
IMPACT: that company that was offering to buy books for AI companies’ training data — and probably destroy them in the process — says it will no longer offer this service following 404 Media’s exposure of it www.404media.co/ai-company-t...
Company Offering Printed Books to Train AI Stops After 404 Media Coverage
Citing backlash, ISBNdb removed its webpages about training AI, denied ever buying, scanning, or selling a book for AI training, and said the site was a "test of market interest."

learning how to properly care for my wavy hair after years of straightening it feels great but also this is so much more maintenance
Preservation of physical media and reference materials is a quintessential part of keeping history. Without it, we are doomed to never learn from mistakes of the past, and worse: We will forget the past entirely. That includes rewriting it.
anyone got a link to that ffx redub where tidus goes "I'd forgotten about bisexuality"
"But as a solo dev--" You must learn the power of your own limitations. If your art is crap, either get better at art, figure out a way to make its crappiness look intentional, or ask for help.
Looking for ptiches on MMORPG, but very specifically looking for MMO pitches. The budget be budgeting, but let's talk if you've got a good MMO pitch you're looking to land somewhere.
genuinely think MMOs lost sight somewhere along the road of the ways that multiplayer in a shared, persistent world can be a wonder and not just a rote feature of the form
FFXI is the goat because I died right before the final checkpoint of the final dungeon and Ava made it tot hr checkpoint and went back to town to recruit a white mage to raise me... multiplayer is awesome
Amnesty International needs to throw everything they’ve got at this case. Burn their reserves, go to court, do a press tour, whatever it takes. If they don’t, they have ceased to exist as a human rights organization.
Hugely hugely concerned by this archive.ph/2026.07.27-1...
This was, is, and always will be a brilliantly shit illustration of how stupidly self defeating business people can be. Forgoing the universal positive of a staff self-training on their own time, because of the vague fear that one in a hundred might make some money.
NEW: I spoke with multiple video game developers and a U.S. employment lawyer to learn more about restrictive side clauses that often prevent employees at major companies from pursuing hobbyist work or personal projects. In an industry renowned for creativity, why are we stifling it?
Once again maddening for all the big outlets to have slowly killed their cultural criticism spaces only for the loudest headline in the last 24 hours to be cultural critique
going to Edinburgh next month!! not sure what to expect from the weather but I know anything below 80F is cold to me now lol
