I was so very sad to hear about William Connolly’s death. Bill was such an amazing and inspiring human being. He was someone who always tried to live according to his ethical philosophy - cultivating a remarkable generosity of spirit in himself that brought it out in those around him.
I have a new review paper out in @environmentalpol.bsky.social! ✨ What would it actually take for states to pursue green transformations? I identify 5 capacities — planning, disciplinary, strategic, legitimation and adaptive — and their respective policy elements, capabilities and institutions

I think the academic community can help US academics, as well as academia in general, by providing safe haven for datasets that are being targeted by the Trump administration.
Fantastic to have an essay published in this awesome collection! www.tni.org/en/article/t...

Current geopolitical competition has deepened into a Second Cold War between US and China, but this is no longer a fight over territory but rather control of global networks – with increased state-led attempts to control semiconductor supply chains and electric vehicle (EV) production to digital platforms, transport infrastructure, and financial payment systems. How can the global South and social movements navigate this new geopolitical terrain?

The new international competition aims "to reshape and exert control over the global economic networks that undergird globalisation", argue @iliasalami.bsky.social, @jessicadicarlo.bsky.social, @sethschindler.bsky.social & Steve Rolf in State of Power 2025 (ch 2): www.tni.org/en/publicati...

An unelected shadow government is conducting a hostile takeover of the federal government. DOGE is not a real government agency. DOGE has no authority to make spending decisions. DOGE has no authority to shut programs down or to ignore federal law. DOGE’s conduct cannot be allowed to stand.
Fascinating (and worrying) post by @stephaniekelton.bsky.social who put Deepseek to work to assess the impact of a 25% US tariffs on imports from Canada on Canadian GDP. It, er, took Deepseek 12 seconds... stephaniekelton.substack.com/p/the-impact...

Happy to have this opinion piece out with CÉPI-CIPS uOttawa: I look at a lasting legacy of Trump's second term: the broad-based repoliticization of the global economy and a move away from decades of attempts by policymakers to depoliticize policy.
