@cooperx86.bsky.social Hey, I noticed the mention of `config.active_record.shuffle_unordered_selects` in Ruby Weekly issue 820. Y'all may be interested to know that the gem `unreliable` brings that same behavior — to test suites only — for Rails >= 5.2 and all the "big four" databases.

a big part of ossoff's rhetorical success is it doesnt contain the compromise and caveats that are a baked-in part of democratic party rhetoric. theres no pretending that his opponent is just misguided or will be pulled back from the edge by "the good republicans." ossoff is saying "fuck this guy"

Figuring out why Ossoff is so effective is an interesting task. I think he's mastering a kind of stern dignity that is uniquely compelling in contrast to the clownish cruelty of the other side. I think the other person who's kind of hit on the same thing is AOC, though in a different register

Who could have predicted the anti data center movement would turn into an antisemetic conspiracy theory? Oh wait we did predict exactly that.

For what it’s worth, arguing LLMs can’t do addition now is flat earth-level science denialism. Here’s Gemma 4b, a non-reasoning model that could only theoretically memorize binary operations up to 65535 x 65535, oneshotting a eight digit addition and hex conversion *on my phone* with no tool calls

Let me just explain the arithmetic thing real quick; I'm seeing a lot of people not understanding what it's supposed to show (or was supposed to show in 2023). First, let's agree that an LLM is a Stochastic Parrot, a description which I find poetic, useful, informative, and basically correct.

Here’s the monthly data with a 12-month trailing average, so we don’t “look ahead” of the time series. We can see that visits from Canada are substantially down. Like, a *lot*. And if we looked at the French series by itself we’d see something too. But it’s not on the scale of Covid. Yet.

Smoothed monthly graph shows Canada has dropped in visits substantially, but not to the extent we saw in Covid

Which - all together - suggests that in September the oil coming out of the region was around 85% of pre-war flows, up from less than 50% in March...6/8

Lucky to be one of the only people who ever had the catharsis of speaking to SBF the way he should’ve always been spoken to. (wait until the end for the smuggest head nod in history)
