One of the things I think is a sacred duty of technologists is to make the extreme edge of possible human endeavor increasingly more mundane. This has the uncomfortable side effect of making it more and more impossible to ignore, which is why many people are so mad at us.
I find arguments that AI can't do judgement or creativity or taste to be especially obviously false in the time of agents. Any long task requires lots of taste, judgement & creativity. I am much more sympathetic to arguments about the quality or diversity of the AI's taste, judgement, or creativity

a general note as well: something being written by AI or not does not change the validity of the underlying information it's a non-argument, an inversion of an appeal to authority

I admittedly cannot vouch for any of the aforementioned writers, as I’ve never heard of them before. But over the weekend as I was writing this, Kat Tenbarge — a writer I am familiar with and respect — released this video in response to her being falsely accused of using AI by [checks notes] Ozzy Osbourne’s son. Apparently, Osbourne thought an article Tenbarge wrote about the Tate brothers was written by AI because it included (in his words) “whatever they’re called, like the big hyphens” (aka, em-dashes). Tenbarge’s video includes proof (via Google Docs of drafts of her article saved along the way) that she wrote it organically. And she cites OpenAI itself who said, “AI writing detectors don’t work.”
So why does Jack “whatever they’re called, like the big hyphens” Osbourne care if some Rolling Stone article was written by or with AI? Well, I’d wager he doesn’t. Especially, since he doesn’t even know what em-dashes are! The most likely scenario is that he raised the issue because he is either 1) pro-Tate brothers and wanted to smear a journalist who wrote about the case against them, or 2) he knew a video smearing said journalist would be clickbait for the rabidly misogynistic Tate fanbase. (Notice how this is not a list of three, but two.)

biggest problem with discourse is the lack of stakes. and that's why i've joined with polymarket...
it's the old serena williams tweet in action, that there is a physical difference between the top tier of male athletes and the top tier of female athletes gets taken by far too many delusional men as "I can beat a woman at anything" no, you cannot beat a decent athlete of either gender at anything

Being right about this will probably not really matter. I think my gripe is with the people selling so much cope on the Internet, every day is a new cope mill selling it to normies. Some smug looking pundit or some guy with an audience straight up lying to their audience.

I'll keep saying this because its so beyond frustrating how dumb this mob is. like these people... don't think at all; they "discovered" hank uses ai (despite him saying this months ago), and now they are riding the anti science train to harass him into apologizing for using tools.
