Making our stretch goals (25K and 30K respectively) will allow us to pay fiction at 9c/word and 10c/word (what we’ve been doing so far). In other words, every dollar that we raise above 22K will go towards paying our fiction writers more. And if we go beyond 30K… special issues back on!

While we’ve always paid professional rates (8c/word) for fiction, over the last few years, we’ve been able to pay above professional rates @ 10c/word. Given a choice, we want to prioritise that. So this year, our base funding goal ($22K) lets us continue at the pro rate of 8c/word.
