Is it good when the secretary of defense is so fixated on making sure everyone is white and has tv ready abs that he forgets about munitions bsky.app/profile/carl...

Epstein Survivors Say Republicans Ghosted Them Before Blanche Vote
Survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse say they were stood up after having scheduled a meeting to speak about Todd Blanche’s nomination for attorney general.

a reason that Stevens lost and other AIPAC candidates are losing despite the huge infusions of money is that Dem voters don't want to vote for a candidate who is funded by the same org who will immediately turn around and fund the Republicans
AIPAC: "Our members remain determined to ensure that voters reject Dr. El-Sayed and his radical anti-Israel agenda in November."
A day later and it hasn't gotten any better, these readings are insane
The entire continental US is covered by smoke plumes and there are spots in the northwest that are absurdly toxic, do NOT go outside there. For reference, "hazardous" starts at an AQI of 300. fire.airnow.gov
Dying at the right-wing activists that (1) held a call with Todd Blanche in which Blanche made a lot of anti-abortion promises, (2) said "uh this is off the record" like doing so would magically ward off journalists, and then (3) UPLOADED IT TO THEIR YOUTUBE CHANNEL www.politico.com/news/2026/08...
these people are weirdo loser freaks (derogatory) and it's important we never let them forget it
Oh my god the dietician who is telling everyone in the White House to only eat steak and sauerkraut doesn't wipe his ass.

FOCUS ON LETHALITY
"Commanders [must] maintain a log of personnel requiring facial hair treatment plans... Must forward a Facial Hair Accommodation Accountability Report in Excel monthly... Those approved for accommodation must carry the signed paperwork on their persons..." www.militarytimes.com/news/your-na...
This is convincing. Every Dem is going to get asked about the shiny new thing (or old tweet) from a left-wing Dem candidate. I do think the incentives are different for someone running on same ballot as, say, Abdul (Hilary Scholten) and some candidate just being tied to the left (Cait Conley).
New in PN: Moderate Democrats have a choice to make "They can spend the next three months reinforcing Republican messaging about their party & making it less likely Dems take power. Or they can put the 'battle for the soul of the party' off for a while and do what they can to help their party win."
Don't miss this vile story: MAGA is raging at DHS chief Markwayne Mullin for admitting migrant farmworkers can beneft our economy. This means his devotion to ethnic cleansing is in doubt. He must be excommunicated! I wrote about the collapse of MAGA mythology here: newrepublic.com/article/2138...
What about Michigan where the trees are the right height
Trump: "Look at the blue cities. What do they have in common? They're all dirty. They're filthy dirty. Their streets are dirty. Their streets smell. Their storefronts are broken. Their trees are all gross. Everything about the place is dirty. It's really all of them."
FYI the states that generate the most wind power are Texas, Iowa, and Oklahoma
Trump: "Any country with windmills is a loser"
Watching how angry he is here, it’s funny to think that this is all about the bottom of the reflecting pool being shitty. He wasn’t this mad about anything that happened in Iran.
Trump says Jeanine Pirro "choked" and then snaps at a reporter who asks if her job is safe: "Don't ever talk again"
! The House Ethics Committee says it's finished an investigation into Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-N.C.) and has "concluded there was substantial reason to believe Representative Edwards violated House Rules related to sexual harassment and hostile workplaces."
The reliance on AAU and the Yale/Vanderbilt reports shows that the administration (or at least McMahon) still cares about the imprimatur of academic support for policies most academics oppose. They are also pushing this now because they know such policies won't be tenable in 2028.
the department of education today issued a 'national call to action' - which, in plain english, is a call for capitulation to trump administration's assault on higher ed. www.ed.gov/media/docume... note how this doc deploys recent yale & vanderbilt reports
My general sense right now is that it is most successful as an ideological project. It exploited media fragmentation, then accelerated it, and is closing in on capturing and institutionalizing the resulting chaos. Pretty successful capturing courts, if you consider that an ideological project too.
Something I think that underlies a lot of debates within the Democratic party and center-left right now is whether or not you think Trumpism has been successful as a political and ideological project. (Not, obviously, whether it's been good or not).
Still amazing that the official government policy is universities can't do DEI except for hiring professors whose politics better align with the regime in power.
Time to add another formerly respected institution to the garbage pile, this time @aau.edu, which just worked with the Trump admin to endorse resegregation in high education, embedding MAGA fraudsters as faculty, and banning student expression. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
“Will you accuse Republican officials of lying when they are obviously lying” is a much bigger problem for the future of news under its current system of elites than how they handle invisible watermarks in fabricated imagery. Its fascinating to see them obsess over the latter and ignore the former.
i really liked this review from @lbaum94.bsky.social of how often american administrations have lumped together all forms of opposition into a dangerous catch-all Communist Menace, whether that was violent anarchists, trade unionists, civil rights protesters, or just random german-americans
“The moment in which we find ourselves is not without precedent. For nearly 150 years, antipathy—if not outright hostility—toward grassroots activism that takes aim at the status quo has been the norm.” www.liberalcurrents.com/the-third-re...
one of the many things about biden that pissed off our society's elites is that his administration had started - in a pretty small-bore and limited way - prosecuting the people who had defrauded the PPP program and that happens to include a huge % of small business tyrant types
Shouldn’t be shocked at any lie RFK Jr tells, but he whined to Dana Bash that businesses were shut down during the pandemic “with no just compensation.” There was an almost trillion dollar PPP loan program, and his organization got millions from it, none of it paid back, to make payroll.
As Cornyn noted at Blanche's confirmation hearing—and as Blanche agreed!—this doesn't change the underlying settlement between Trump and the government, which required the fund to be established. Trump could sue to enforce the settlement. Or Blanche could resurrect the fund once he's confirmed.
NEWS: Todd Blanche says he is rescinding his May 18 order establishing the “anti-weaponization fund”
I read this 30 years ago and it rewired my brain. A must read on the ways the auto industry undermined mass transit in the US. global.oup.com/academic/pro...

Is everyone aware of the General Motors streetcar conspiracy? In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.
It's hard to overstate how ISOLATING and scary it was with a child under 5 waiting for that under 5 vaccine. The world was kind of moving on and you not only couldn't, you had to be scared for your child every day
Also the Republicans were screaming that Fauci helped authorize vaccines for children, which is something every goddamn parent I know was praying for every day for more than a year and have been thankful for ever since. These people are all self-centered idiotic sociopaths, nothing more.
stripping OMB of the ability to dole out grants is an enormous win, this nukes the SAVE act, it prohibits further ICE bailouts, adding a "no, really, trump can't break already on-the-books laws regarding elections the federal government doesn't run" clause would be both unnecessary and unproductive
Patty Murray and Chuck Schumer decide to strike a “bipartisan” deal with … checks notes … Susan Collins to fund the Trump regime through December which appears to not to any include any safeguards against Trump’s meddling with midterm elections.
