There will be a lot of equivocating about all the times search warrants have been executed on members of Congress for corruption investigations and the like, and it can't be stressed enough in how many ways HSI raiding Ilhan Omar is extremely not like that.

This is quite literally what happened to one of my grandparents in 1933. You know, in case we still have folks in the “it’s not fascism if it doesn’t meet these very specific, arbitrary characteristics based on my own refusal to accept responsibility to oppose it” crowd.

You can’t get more Gestapo than this…. “a criminal probe into her immigration paperwork, which her late father filled out after the family emigrated to the U.S. from Somalia when she was a child”

and ossoff isnt an innocent in this. he's done some really stupid bipartisan stuff. but it is refreshing to hear from a democrat: this man is bad. he supports bad things. he must be stopped. this is unambigous. it should be the bog standard for the party. but they have not done it.

The collapse of our institutions in the face of fascism is really something to behold. Here, the American College of Surgeons, the largest professional organization for surgeons in the country, platformed Trump’s ousted FDA chief Marty Makary, letting him riff about the challenges facing healthcare

Makary and all of his fringe allies who willingly and excitedly went to work for an anti-vax conspiracy theorist while he dismantled America’s public health ought to be drummed out of academia and professional life forever. You should not get to come back from that.

A familiar story for anyone who follows @volts.wtf. “The Chronicle spoke to more than half a dozen grid experts…to try to understand why Texas’s notoriously unreliable grid had a remarkably reliable summer. The answer was unanimous: solar panels and batteries.”

Texas shattered energy demand records this summer. Here's why the grid held up.

Texas repeatedly broke electricity demand records this summer, but ERCOT avoided emergencies as booming solar and battery capacity helped keep the grid stable.

We have M. Gessen coming to speak at Duke next week, & then Fran Lebowitz the week after Mitt Romney spoke last night; it’s hard to believe that a Republican delivered universal health coverage—Romneycare—to the state he governed as these days Republicans scream that UHC is “dirty socialism!¡!”

Russell Vought wants to kill the NIH In case you didn't know this, Vought's daughter has cystic fibrosis & has benefited from a combination drug treatment (elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor) that was developed by NIH-funded research By @juliametraux.bsky.social www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

I graduated med school in 2014. I was taught-and saw-how hard melanoma was to treat, like a death sentence Since then, new treatments have made it possible for people w/ the most advanced melanoma, like Jimmy Carter, to live to 100! We are killing ourselves by letting them destroy American science

A cancer vaccine succeeded in a clinical trial in preventing the recurrence of melanoma, a result experts say is a breakthrough for mRNA-based treatments. Trials for lung cancer, pancreatic cancer and other diseases' vaccines are also underway.
