How did our electeds respond to the toxic smoke last week? While Trump and other Republicans threatened Canada with tariffs and sanctions, "climate hushing" Dems offered no counter-narrative, letting Trump's blame game define the moment. We have some ideas for what they could have done instead:

Talking About A World on Fire

While Trump threatened Canada over wildfire smoke, climate-hushing Democrats missed the moment.

Hard to overstate how angry Canadians are at Trump over these ridiculous tariffs. The United States has emitted the most carbon pollution in world history. It has caused these climate-driven wildfires. Oh and American air pollution routinely drifts into Canada. What utter bullshit.

This is yet another example of the Trump administration colluding with the state of Texas and polluters to strip endangered species of the protection that they need in order to survive,” said Jason Rylander, an attorney with the Center for Biological Diversity.

The U.S. spent $11B in the first week of the Iran War and have spent many times that in weeks since, dwarfing the subsidy China has given solar panels. This war is all about oil and is another example of how our entire society is effectively built around enormous subsidies for fossil fuels. 🔌💡

The $18 billion spent on subsidies for solar manufacturing by China since 2000 is half of what the US has spent on subsidies for oil every year since 2000. There is no starker illustration of how badly US industrial & energy policy has been bungled. #EnergySky #ClimateSky #GreenSky #EconSky

For every dollar the world invests in fossil fuels today, it invests nearly two in clean energy. Despite record political backlash, the money keeps moving in one direction, and it is not the direction the headlines suggest. www.forbes.com/sites/we-don...

Clean energy investment now exceeds fossil fuels by nearly two to one. New IEA data reveals where the world's energy system is heading.

This is important in understanding what’s happening at CBS & in the United States. “Weiss’s ascent provides a lesson in how liberal institutions can sometimes place such value on proving that they’re open-minded that other liberal values, like standing for actual liberal things, get tossed aside.”

Why The New York Times Is Wholly Responsible for Bari Weiss’s Rise

She was at The Wall Street Journal and should have spent her career there. But the Times decided she was … interesting. Why do liberals do this?

Yesterday Trump signed an Executive Order creating a “Policy/Career” category of federal employees, removing many of the protections against politicization of the civil service. There’s what the EO says, and then there’s what it really means - a 🧵 on driving truth out of agencies 1/7
