When I started my political science grad program in 2003 people were freaking out because survey response rates had fallen below 30% and now they’re well below 1%. It might be as accurate (and more intellectually honest) to just conduct simulations with high/low/average turnout scenarios.

There’s no actual alternative to polling but I just don’t believe they capture public sentiment in any reliable way anymore

The AI stans say this shit all the time too. It's hilarious. As someone who worked in advertising and marketing, it's not this at all. In fact, the marketing is the ONLY reason they're getting traction at all with such a flawed product. Ad firms pay the Scorseses for those testimonials, etc

I love that AI companies are all like "we just have a marketing problem" when regular people are having AI experiences like this all over the place every single day

If you show up to Bluesky without following anyone, you'll be treated to a series of posts about art, music, and dogs. If you show up to X without following anyone, you'll be bombarded with right-wing conspiracies and white supremacist slop. It's weird which one is seen as a "political bubble"

Aaron Rodgers is talking shit about Tony Fauci, which raises an interesting possibility: could he beat the shit out of that old man in a cage match? The old man, to be clear, being Aaron Rodgers

It’s important to understand that when 1.2 million Americans are dying from a disease, any government action is excessive and tyrannical, but if a dozen trans women want to play soccer no government action can go far enough

All this requires is for democrats to simply explain the situation on a host of issues. They don’t. They think explaining is beneath them. Then they’re shocked when they face a giant wall of bullshit.

"'The way I’d put it,' the auto journalist Martin Padgett told me recently, 'is that we pulled a U-turn while the rest of the world was pushing forward.'” Look at global EV trends, then look at the US auto market. The US is heading for a Thelma & Louise style cliff. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/15/m...

The American E.V. Has Been Crushed. Will It Take the U.S. Auto Industry With It?

The largest U.S. automakers have backed away from electric vehicles, even as global sales are booming. The decision may make them obsolete.
