Haven’t stopped thinking about Big Walk since I played on Saturday. A playground for you and your friends designed with utmost care and a level of intention I’ve been sorely missing lately.
Watching @dekubrush.bsky.social play through the entirely of Majoras Mask. So many little awesome little freaks, especially stone tower temple, mid and late game majoras mask has always been a blindspot for me but I’m shocked id never seen fanart or mention of these guys in the past 25 years
if I ever taught film criticism lesson one would be “you being smarter than the movie is not interesting to anyone”

When a game's a hit, publishers often mistake the IP as the success rather than the team. So they invest in a franchise instead of people. "You're probably gonna lose all that core team and nucleus that it took [...] five years of them working together to finally complete each other's sentences"

it's free for cartoonists to use! but if you work at a comics publisher and want to use it: consider bringing me in to talk about building sustainable schedules and practices for graphic novels. if you're at a prose publisher and this is your first comic, you should REALLY bring me in. email me!
my comics deadline planner is almost 10 years old! the version I use has changed a lot since then; I'm working on a little update that I'll share when I finish a resources page for my website. in the meantime, here's the ancient version! please make a copy & edit to fit your needs & schedule!
here's a basic Comic Deadline Planner I made years ago- old but still useful in figuring out how long it might take you to draw a comic! www.patreon.com/posts/77633240 numbers are placeholders, NOT a guide; everyone's process is different! please make a copy & edit to fit your own schedule--

Hey all I'm looking for work! I'm experienced in character design and costume for games and film as well as illustration for books and TTRPGS. I'm based out of BC Canada looking for freelance or full time. My portfolio is linked in the first comment, thank you for shares!
Most of us did not choose to write or draw or design so that we could put products on the shelf. We chose to do it because it’s a set of skills we enjoy exercising, that give us fulfillment. It’s like asking a pro pitcher to just let a machine pitch for them. Fuck off and give me the ball.
This is such a misunderstanding of why writers, artists, and designers do research to begin with, which is to find something unexpected, not capture the average or find reference for the default. And, as always, the biggest misapprehension: We don’t want to NOT do this part. It’s fun to learn shit
Anyone who supports this is an embarrassment. "Instead of typing it out they'll generate their idea"? Are you insane? Call yourself whatever you want but you aren't creatives, that's for sure.
This convo I had highlights the difference in what "respect your time" means in games. A lot of players want to trade time for in-game progress. It's purely transactional: 1 hour = 1 progress But I want to feel like my actions matter i.e. what I do with time creates progress, not time itself.
The 'does not respect your time' thing is so relative because I feel like all those like super smooth high production games have absolutely no respect for my time, they just want to consume it and give me nothing back in return.
If kids’ schools trained them for work based on what everyone thought the hot new technology was going to be, both my kids would have spent the past several years learning about the blockchain. This is why schools don’t attempt to do workplace training: life is pretty long.
we need to have a better standard for what we take as facts and evidence of something yesterday. if you're going to survive the misinformation age you need to be diligent about verifying everything, almost especially the stuff that reinforces what you already believe.
we're never beating the infighting allegations
Oh sick I didn’t realize Steam was developing games all by itself
Steam’s mechanical new puzzle game has taken over my brain
I mean this in the most earnest way possible. If your points of reference for storytelling all come from cartoons I BEG you to read more books. There’s so much more variety out there, so much that hasn’t been distilled through 80 different hands & a single corporation’s S+P department.
What's funny is this is also the mindset you should have to make good art.
Former Nintendo Dev Takaya Imamura on Miyamoto: "Mr. Miyamoto studied industrial design at an art university, and he views games as ‘products,’ not ‘works of art.’ I think this perspective is what leads to game development that’s more aligned with the user.” automaton-media.com/en/news/shig...
an underappreciated skill in game design is "lying to players." games only exist in a player's mind!! you can change the nature of the game without changing its core logic by just telling players that the logic is something different!!
I'm trying to comment on this without being hyperbolic. As a manager, insisting on deadlines that you and your ICs straight up don't believe are possible almost GUARANTEES that a) their work will be thrown out or completely redone and b) you will put them in danger of burning out.
NEW: What went wrong with Dragon Age: The Veilguard? Why was the writing so tonally inconsistent? Why did it feel so shallow? Why were there so few choices? Really, after ten years of turbulence, it was a miracle that anything came out at all. This is the story: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Hoping this drives midjourney into the dirt and sets genAI back a thousand years. But the real fight is going to be rewriting copyright law and redefining personal ownership. It’s happening right now and it’s a fight where corporations are emphatically NOT on our side.
Walt Disney and Comcast's Universal filed a copyright lawsuit against Midjourney on Wednesday, calling its popular AI-powered image generator a "bottomless pit of plagiarism" for its use of the studios' best-known characters.
People and media often say Balatro was made by 'one guy'. I feel like that unfortunately may be stoking the flames of this David vs. Goliath narrative a tiny bit No it was not 'one guy', look at the dang in-game credits
This year's Summer Games Fest presentation was really concerned with how few people made a lot of those games, huh? It feels kinda fucked up. Not just because they're often misrepresntating the real size of these teams, but because I think it's playing directly into a new(ish) flavour of dev hate.
Mario Kart World absolutely rules but it is such a bummer that there's no local multiplayer in Free Roam. That was the thing my kids were most excited about.
free advice for game developers: try to make the next smash hit video game, such as grand theft auto. if you do, you'll be making more than just a video game – you'll be making millions of dollars
