We rightfully talk about Ruby Bridges being the first Black child to integrate an all-white school in the South at 6-years-old. But we don’t talk nearly enough about Lucille Bridges, her mom ✨

Lucille Bridges poses next to a portrait of her daughter, Ruby, walking into a school to become the first Black child in the South to integrate an all-white school

Been thinking a lot about how so many "desktop clients" these days are just branded dedicated web browsers, so when the internet is down, so is the SaaS. Wanted to like Boxnotes, but ❌ Extra funny when you consider how shitty the US's commercial internet infrastructure is compared to other nations

The most terrifying enshittification I've discovered has been learning that Microsoft Word documents no longer auto-save if you are not saving them to one of their own proprietary cloud services. I'm slapping control-S like it's 1999.

It’s important to understand that when 1.2 million Americans are dying from a disease, any government action is excessive and tyrannical, but if a dozen trans women want to play soccer no government action can go far enough

Good luck to everyone out there struggling to figure out how they'll get through the day. May the bastards not succeed in grinding us down and may we have enough oomph left to hold space for those we encounter who need it.

The medical guidance on dealing with Covid has never changed for immunocompromised or high-risk people. It has always been to wear a mask in crowded and indoor spaces. People will literally yell at kids with cancer and the rest of polite society goes “oh well, personal responsibility…”

Hating life at the moment for putting me in the unfortunate position of needing help. It's a really crappy feeling to be in this position, but here I am. Over the last 6 years, my body has been kicking my ass in every conceivable way and it has taken a toll on our lives. ko-fi.com/johnniejae#s...

I'm so tired I can't even finish a take on the touchtyping-in-schools-we-used-to-be-a-proper-country discourse, and maybe I should let disability teach me wisdom

It’s important to understand “age verification” and “kick the kids off social media” laws as a gift to Big Tech. These policies allow surveillance capitalism to chug along full steam ahead and let Silicon Valley giants off the hook. Instead of regulating their biz model, we just put up age gates

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

An aircraft passenger oxygen mask: a drop down passenger mask with air bag and yellow plastic mouth and nose cover, oxygen tube has been cut; Demonstration model used by flight attendant crew for passenger instruction. Has text on the side indicating that it's non-functional.

I was not counting in spending my Friday puking my guts out, but here we are. When I was telling myself yesterday that needed to pull deep from within to try to turn some shit around, this is not what I meant. Also, it sucks to be nauseous and hungry at the same time, but feel like it's a metaphor

"As Japanese financial newspaper Nikkei Asia found in a recent investigation, just five US tech giants — Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and Oracle — are hiding an estimated $1.65 trillion in debt that doesn’t appear on balance sheets. futurism.com/artificial-i...

AI Companies Are Trying to Hide a Staggering Amount of Debt

AI companies are pouring tens of billions of dollars into enormous data centers. They're being built on top of a mountain of hidden debt.

I did tech theatre in undergrad, and a bunch of my friends actually made it to the pro level, houses you've heard of. Only one's still in it 20 yrs later. One was the founding stage manager for Rita Moreno's and Carrie Fisher's one-woman shows among other things. Union. She's a vet tech now.

"The vast majority of people who work in film and television are not studio executives, nor are they famous actors. They are, overwhelmingly, blue-collar workers, freelancers, and small businesses. And they are in free fall." newrepublic.com/article/2136...

What still fucks me up to this day is that it's STILL ongoing and people ignore it. Covid's still happening, but the masking, the air filtering, where's that now? I got six weeks of Covid from my elderly mother bc she was told it wasn't a thing anymore & wouldn't mask, but I had to live with her

One more thing I want to be clear about: Most people are not talking about the trauma of lockdowns. They’re overwhelmingly talking about the trauma of being forced “back to normal” when “normal” had a new level of danger and cruelty.
