Local DC policy is my work. MPH health equity @ BU SPH is my school. Alum of AFL-CIO & UMass Labor Center (among other places). I talk mostly about public health + politics + workers’ rights. **Personal account.**

Looks like a 10-15 point polling miss in Michigan regardless of who wins. And people have been writing a lot of electability takes using this data. It’s dangerous out there folks be safe

Let's sit with this: the IRS can audit any working person—and audits every president—but it will no longer audit President Trump. This is a privilege that no other American worker has. When working people say the rules are rigged, THIS is what folks mean.

Republicans Let Trump Keep Unparalleled Benefit: I.R.S. Immunity

The rebellion against Todd Blanche’s nomination to be attorney general, now seemingly contained, at no point fundamentally questioned President Trump’s new protections from the I.R.S.

I’ve been notified of another death in ICE custody. This is the 55th death under Trump’s second term and the second reported death at Delaney Hall in less than 8 months. We must end the use of these deadly private prisons and reform our country’s cruel detention policies.

Not only is this a terrible misuse of taxpayer money, it’s setting up the stage for a fascist government to oppress all dissent on Inauguration Day 2029, possibly with the aim of staying in power regardless of the election. American Exceptionalism really blinds folks from seeing the obvious signs.

Trump ‘s deployment of National Guard troops D.C. “is set to cost an additional $1.4 billion through the end of the Trump administration … The estimate, which encompasses October 2026 through January 2029, adds to the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on the mission to date.”

If RFK Jr's facing one person, he's adept at spewing out enough things to swamp rebuttals. This may be why he gets so inordinately angry and frustrated when he's facing multiple questioners (or someone who's an expert in that area and can address multiple lies at once).

+1 to what @colincarlson.bsky.social said: the RFK interview is seen by the Right as a win. Bash grilled him, but there were lies that went unanswered/poorly refuted — making it look like to vaxhesitant or RW viewers like maybe RFK has a point (he doesn’t). THIS is the danger of platforming him.

“We just can't believe that a machine can replace all the decades of … clinical judgment & knowledge that we have.” Nurses laid off in July by Montefiore Hospitals in the Bronx sounded the alarm about AI in healthcare, a concern shared by nurses across the country, @evelazquez.bsky.social reports.

As Cornyn noted at Blanche's confirmation hearing—and as Blanche agreed!—this doesn't change the underlying settlement between Trump and the government, which required the fund to be established. Trump could sue to enforce the settlement. Or Blanche could resurrect the fund once he's confirmed.

outstanding questions. We have enjoyed good faith discussions, and as a result issue the following order and update with regard to the May
IRS settlement. The Department always welcomes and appreciates productive engagement with all members of Congress.

Co-sign this, but I do think folks are forgetting that there was so much valid frustration at the time because it felt like kids were making all the sacrifices and adults were not. Kids were virtual while adults drinking at bars and eating indoors at restaurants were spreading covid freely.

the big complaint generally revolves around schools, but the timeline there was pretty sensible: most schools were fully remote until the vaccine rollout, after which they fairly quickly moved to in-person learning.

Not enough people are concerned that Trump plans on having armed troops in DC until Inauguration Day 2029 — under the absolutely false premise of “cleaning up DC” — and that this could jeopardize the peaceful transfer of power. The military occupation of DC is a national threat to our democracy.

What is the National Guard allowed to do when operating in a hybrid status where the mission is defined by the president but the governor retains command and control? @nkorpett.bsky.social, @lizagoitein.bsky.social, Joseph Nunn, and @lorenvoss.bsky.social discuss: youtu.be/RJgl2oRjLhM

I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.

Flock’s array of license-plate cameras was built to fight crime. But at least 50 law enforcement officers were charged with or accused of misusing it and other systems.

So the US Secretary of Health and Human Services just claimed not only COVID-19 but 'many other global pandemics' started from gain-of-function research, including respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) outbreaks and Lyme disease. This is deeply irresponsible. There is not a shred of evidence for this.

😳 RFK Jr's epic CNN crashout 😳 Dana Bash pressed RFK Jr on Trump's culpability for mishandling covid and the misinformation he pushes about vaccines, and the segment wound down with him getting mad and barking at her like a rabid dog Here's the full thing:

We cannot let RFK Jr. and the like revise history and cause us to forget the reality of what the height of the covid pandemic was really like. Experts were making the best decisions and recommendations based on what we knew at the time, and it evolved as insight and resources did too.

The health, social, & economic disruptions of the pandemic were challenging for each of us & our shared society Grateful to all who did their best to help us through this historic period May we one day have more constructive reflection on what we may learn to strengthen our collective way forward

RFK Jr: Trump wanted to end lockdowns. In Fauci's diary, he talks about how the president was calling him trying to get him to reopen the country BASH: The lockdowns were down by governors K: They cited Fauci B: Govs were hearing from hospitals that their ICUs were overrun K: That's not true
