I would much rather my tax dollars feed the hungry than murder the innocent so eff right off USA Today.
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

Today at Book Riot, I wrote about the shift away from continuity and ongoing storylines in superhero comics, and why I'm Old Man Yells At Cloud about it: bookriot.com/whatever-hap...
Whatever Happened to Ongoing Comics?
Superhero comics are losing continuity and melodrama thanks to a decrease in sustained storytelling.

This whole Human Authored thing is giving me flashbacks to the Comics Pledge.
That one to a customer rule is brutal but Anything Goes squeaks in just ahead of Little Shop of Horrors. Honorable Mention: She Loves Me. (Yes I cheated wildly.)
OK, let's play... NAME YOUR FAVORITE STAGE MUSICAL TITLE SONG (AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TRY TO AVOID DOLLY AND MAME) (One to a customer. One is the one that's one more than zero and one less than two.) I'll go first. Little Me

A patriotic military officer with controversial ideas follows his heart and disobeys orders to order to protect America.
It's crazy that this isn't even all of the delightful female-led books Marvel was putting out then. Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen...
If ICE can kill anyone it wants with impunity, then none of us have any meaningful rights. It’s that simple.
ICE desperately wants you not to care about this story But we must. The killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national striving for his American Dream, is a moral outrage, and a warning. ICE hopes you won't notice that mass deportation is back My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/ice-...

I went on Superhero Ethics to talk about the new Supergirl movie! We talked True Grit and Mad Max: Fury Road uhhh "tributes," the ethics of killing, and THAT needle drop. trustory.fm/superheroeth...
Supergirl
Comics journalist Jessica Plummer joins Matthew to ask whether Supergirl 2026 earned its ending, or just borrowed the weight of revenge without doing the work.

All, if you don’t mind boosting this, I would really, really appreciate it.
My doctor is pretty convinced that's why I'm sick now; he thinks the thyroiditis and goiter started once I hit too many months of chronic stress. I'm trying my best to get better, and that's why I seriously appreciate the support/shares/boosts; it truly means a lot. gofund.me/7872605fc
Remember how when it turned out that Batman had plans to take down the whole Justice League it was treated as a horrific violation & a monstrous thing to do to his teammates & had knockdown effects throughout much of the DCU? Like, Tim almost lost all of his friends & he had nothing to do with it.
ConEd: Hey New York! Please raise your AC temperature to a useless level so we can continue to rely on outdated infrastructure while making record-breaking profits. Me: NO. GET BENT. Zohran Mamdani: Please. 🥺 The grid. 🥺🥺🥺 Me: ...Oh FINE.
Hey friends, if over the last 10 years or so you've seen graphics with scripts for calling your reps, there's a good chance they came from Celeste. The last few years have really put her through the wringer, if you can spare anything, please give her a hand.
Hey friends! Our one and only Celeste Pewter needs help after an already awful year. A new medical issue has made things tougher. Please read through her Go Fund Me for details, share and donate if you can. She’s been fighting for the good of our democracy tirelessly for years. gofund.me/4a6bcb3b5
There's an entire cottage industry that's developed around being intensely hateful toward female led supe/action movies. They're held to impossible standards on purpose, subjectivity doesn't exist, and then the ragebait grift begins.
"Throughout the first half of the movie I kept asking myself, 'Okay, so when does this get bad?' Then I realized it never would." Our publisher and senior editor Mark Redfern argues Supergirl is far better than the backlash suggests. www.undertheradarmag.com/news/supergi...
I have a lot of thoughts about Supergirl itself but also some thoughts on the trailers before the movie: 1. The best trailer by like...a crazy amount was for Street Fighter??? Like I would be shocked if the movie itself was actually good but the trailer was a delight? I'm so confused.
Supergirl verdict: pretty good! I certainly have some questions and some notes (that one needle drop was...a choice), but it was fun and I thoroughly enjoyed this take on Kara. I'm so relieved because this could have been REAL bad.
Oh hey, happy Pride! 🏳️🌈 I was back on Superhero Ethics talking about... Pride. As in the, 2014 movie about solidarity between queers and miners. Perhaps the real superheroes are the friends (and allies, and community) we made along the way. trustory.fm/superheroeth...
Pride (2014): When Thatcher Made Allies of Queers and Miners
Author Becky Allen joins Matthew to examine Pride (2014) and the real queer-labour coalition that outlasted Thatcher and the 84-85 miners' strike.

For sales in any media industry to work, you have to remove all the barriers of inconvenience between the product and the customer so it's as easy as possible to hand over my money and slide right in. Right now the comic industry says "do an hour of homework each week or you're a bad customer."
I will just say, from Oregon, that to me a big part of why Mamdani and Lander blew up on a national level was that their shared values, mutual respect and solidarity across faith traditions (even while running against each other!) was like everything beautiful about both New York and America
Under the guise of denouncing religious bigotry, people like David Frum are in fact engaging in religious bigotry themselves. "Oh, it doesn't matter what this politician has actually done and said, he's a Muslim and you know how THEY are." Utterly vile and pathetic.

I can't be the first person to ask this question, but the Xavier School/Institute/whatever is in Westchester. So do all of the X-kids need to take the regents? Like is that what's happening between Sentinel attacks? Because their faculty does NOT seem qualified.
If a man like Byrne, who said absolutely jaw-droppingly transphobic things that I've attached here, can still be regarded as an elder statesman of comics and get high profile deals like this published, then we have a long way to come as an industry and I would be a coward not to say that.
Okay, yeah, I’m gonna do this. Zine of trans and/or BIPOC creators’ takes on X-Men. Proper call for participants sometime in the next few weeks, but if you’re interested, few free to HMU sooner.
Actually, if I do this as a direct refutation of Byrne—which it will be—should also include any BIPOC creators
