FIFA has a funny set-up where every country gets exactly one vote which means small countries are way overrepresented and you can hang on to power by promising little giveaways to those countries and their reps. Thankfully no similar system exists in the United States government, that would be bad

"Did Lalas enjoy an elite playing career? No. But does he do the background reading that could compensate for his relative lack of standing in a conversation with titans like Henry and Zlatan? Also no. But is he charming or funny or charismatic or otherwise magnetic on screen? Eh, no."

This is incredible. So satisfying. I was going to say it’s “cutting” but it’s more a knifing to the gut or maybe a beheading. www.theguardian.com/football/202...

Gonna get someone to break my legs and drive me out to the desert so I can crawl back just so I’m doing something less painful and more productive than watching arsenal with my weekends

Our constitutional system just isn’t working as it was designed. this is not itself new, it’s just that the design faults are particularly obvious and harmful at this moment. impeachment has never worked particularly well, and now it is practically impossible when it is urgently needed.

Constitutional lawyer here. I don't think it would violate the Constitution for the VP/Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment, but the intended constitutional remedy for this behavior is impeachment & removal. The fact that that remedy is politically impossible is a scandal and a crisis.

Times like these I’m so glad Merrick Garland stuck to “norms” & refused to prosecute Trump for his many crimes. Because yes—while we are facing the very real threat of global nuclear war—at least we don’t have the shame of a former president sitting in prison. Boy would that’ve been embarrassing.

There's no way you can keep funding a federal government who's primary mission is to inflict pain on the population. Every federal agency from McMahon at DoE to RFK shredding HHS and everything in between. Every day we let them stay open is more time we'll need to repair the damage they've done

Maher Tarabishi, who has been detained by ICE since October, was the primary caretaker of his disabled adult child, Wael. On Jan. 23, Wael died from complications related to Pompe disease, a rare genetic condition. ICE has now denied Maher’s request to attend his funeral, his attorney says.
