#histmed, pharma, public health, drugs. Sometimes IP, bioethics, critical med ed, pedagogies of care. Gardening. N Florida. a small axe. also, a swear bear. personal account, obviously

I had to code and pronounce a time of death on a respiratory therapist colleague. There's a memorial plaque for her outside the emergency department to this day. I wrote and re-wrote my will. I will never forgive these ghouls trying to rewrite history and deny our experience.

RFK Jr said these words today on national television "There were ICUs that were empty all over the country including in New York at the height (of the pandemic)" hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha You are a fucking idiot hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha <sobs silently>

Something that keeps happening: I find an amazing article and look up the author who conducted the analyses (distinct from the author who was PI or senior author, BTW), and the vast majority of the time, said author is precariously employed at the institution listed on the publication.

Here's a fascinating story. Catholic schools in Florida are, on religious grounds, denying religious exemptions to vaccines. Florida's right-wing Republican AG is demanding that the state's Catholic schools violate Catholic teaching & allow for religious exemptions. www.osvnews.com/florida-ags-...

Fla. AG's threat to Catholic schools 'clear violation' of the First Amendment, law scholar says

The AG's letter "reflects a misunderstanding of Americans' fundamental right to religious freedom and is a glaring and dangerous government overreach."

Dunno… I remember friends telling me there were bodies in the streets. And going into work seeing intensive care wards packed, patients dying at crazy rates, and having pathologists ask me to help them screen tissues for COVID viruses because they were trying to find out what tissues were infected.

it’s pretty obvious that a lot of people remember that COVID lockdowns were unpleasant and from there just extrapolate that they were therefore bad policy

I still remember when the Red Sox hadn't won a championship in a gazillion years and every fan kept hoping somehow this year they would break the curse but they never did. And it was too bad but also better than once they actually started winning

It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better

youve heard of failing upwards. well academic careers in 2026 encapsulate the reverse: succeeding downwards. so many talented, highly qualified people, being punished for their achievements

Imho this is wrong Republicans created a radicalization feedback loop which constantly mainstreams what used to be the fringe and pushes the fringe further into la la land Opposition from Dems is necessary but not enough to stop this process. The feedback loop needs to be broken

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS & we can still stop it. Please call your Senator NOW & ask that they sign onto S.4814 & extend TPS for Haitians for 3 years. This will be a catastrophe for our neighbors who have been here legally!! Here's the call script! drive.google.com/file/d/1XXEs...

My Haitian friend was just fired from his job. "They said I don't have a legal status now." This is likely happening to hundreds of thousands of people across this country today. Sick.

Creating a vector database of nearly 10k LGBTQ related bills from 2004-present. This will allow for semantic search on bills as well as novel textual analysis. It'll include all bill meta data along with hand coded values by the legialerts team. I don't think anything like this has been done before.
