"If this is what it takes to get a rom-com greenlit these days, maybe we should just let them die. Death with dignity is surely a better fate for the genre than fascist capitulation." Zero stars for this piece of shit movie. My review of ONE NIGHT ONLY for @ebertvoices.bsky.social

One Night Only review: Pull out from this sex-negative rom-com

I think it's perfectly consistent to stand by Israel's right to exist and its importance as a US ally, and to observe that Netanyahu has severely damaged Israel's moral standing and behaved recklessly towards US interests.

The OMB thing is huge, this is unarguably a Dem W. The rule they blocked was critical to the SAVE act. Part of the reason people think "feckless Dems can't do shit" is because wreckers post nonsense like this, framing clear wins as losses because they either don't know better, or have an agenda.

Patty Murray and Chuck Schumer decide to strike a “bipartisan” deal with … checks notes … Susan Collins to fund the Trump regime through December which appears to not to any include any safeguards against Trump’s meddling with midterm elections.

Screenshots of posts from Burgess Everett on X:

“The Senate's CR deal is out from Sens. Collins and Murray. Funds government through Dec. 11

Bill blocks a new rule that would allow the admin to cancel grants to, for example, blue states

Collins says the bill "prevents the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)’s proposed rule regarding federal financial assistance from taking effect"

Murray: "his bill blocks implementation of OMB’s corrupt new grants rule for the duration of the CR. The proposed rule would systematically politicize federal funding and allow Trump officials to cancel grants at any time for any reason."

“Bill also extends surface transportation programs through Dec. 11 (was set to expire Sept. 30

Also has health care extenders

Bottom line is this is going to kick a ton of stuff to Congress's lame duck”

This is both useful guidance (how to turn off AI summaries in Google), and also an important way to think. "it’s worth pushing past what you think you can accomplish. If something’s not working, don’t give up—try to figure out why. You might just fix it." buttondown.com/justinpot/ar...

Very good @brianbeutler.bsky.social look at the folly of imaging that Dems can win young men over the long haul "with a dozen more Rogan appearances and a ten percent increase in bearded senators." Instead try "demonstrating an interest in their fellowship." www.offmessage.net/p/maga-donal...

MAGA Squandered Young Men's Trust; Making Them Stay Democrats Is The Hard Part

The right discredited itself. The left can't win them back with beards and podcast appearances alone.

I am going through Bram Stoker’s earliest notes on DRACULA today - they include a list of the powers and features of the Count (then named “Wampyr” before Stoker stumbled on “Dracula”), many of which are never elucidated in the book…

• panters cannot pant hım; looks like someone else (38b)
• insensitive to music (38b)
• despises death and the dead (38b)
. is affected only by relics that are older than he is (38b)
• can create evil thoughts in others, banish good ones, and destroy will (38b)
• cannot be photographed; photographs come out black or like a skeleton corpse (4, 38b)
• can tell if bodies are dead or alive (4)
• sees man semingly dead and says "no" (4)
• has to be brought or carried over threshold. Dracula visits an asylum where he stumbles on the threshold (4, 16)
• named "Count Wampyr" (1)
• can determine and prove if people are sane (24)
green taper with blue flame in Count's house (43va)

TL: DR - though you absolutely should read the article - many, possibly most, of That Man's ostensibly "Christian" supporters actively and openly reject fundamental (as in, you can't be Christian if you don't believe in/reject them) doctrines and teachings of the faith.

"The German generals of WWII were some of the best..." They lost. "The noble soldiers of the Confederacy were..." They also lost. "The Spartans..." Dude they lost so bad their city spent the rest of it's existence as a Roman tourist trap.

You might want to know that you can exclude sites from search results in google (and any other search engines) by adding a "-[site_to_be_excluded]" tag to the search string. For example, search for "iphone -amazon", and amazon results will be excluded from your "iphone" search.

Learning that Duck Duck Go let's you block specific sites from search results is a game changer for when you are looking for things and you don't want the first 10 results to be Amazon.

There's a lot of people newly paying attention to Zelenskyy's eye on Iran. I think if Ukraine can DEFINITIVE show Trump is knowingly lying abt RU and China helping Iran it would corner him somewhat. That may be why Ukraine struck a ship in the Caspian (Israel previously struck a port there).

Q: Zelenskyy says Russia is giving Iran satellite imagery of US bases in the Gulf to help them target. What can you do about that? TRUMP: We'll find out if that's true. I'll ask Putin about it. Hasn't had much impact.

Yes, the problem is that this administration is composed in its entirety of brain-damaged imbeciles who genuinely believe that all prior American leaders were giant wimps who lacked the inherent masculinity to powerfully solve every problem with the maximum application of lethal, manly force

Gerry Doyle@mgerrydoyle.bsky.social · last wk.

there is a reason the u.s. never started a big war with iran before, and it's that such a conflict poses basically intractable geopolitical problems. this is not a reflection of weakness but of geography and cost-benefit.

This is hideous. It makes me shudder to look at it. Who the hell decided to mutilate a classic film by blurring a big part of the image? What useful purpose does that serve? Show me the person who decided to smoke because they saw ancient C. Aubrey Smith with a pipe. Moronic.

Steven Sheil@scsheil.bsky.social · last wk.

The René Clair version of And Then There Were None often plays on one of the free channels on my TV, but with an odd bit of censorship - they blur any pipe, cigarette or cigar, but only when it's actually in a character's mouth.

Though the Iranian regime has also proved unable to learn much from the touch stove principle however much people on this site seem willing to ignore how the supposed master strategists of the IRGC have accelerated the immolation of the Iranian economy
