social media that's bad for minors is obviously bad for adults too. crazy to me that the move seems to be to just accept that and ban minors rather than regulate the obvious design patterns that were put in there on purpose which make it harmful to its users

[bravely] if youre a center left party and you want to protect children online maybe enforce preexisting laws against hate speech and scams rather than banning children just so you wont alienate voters from the Adolf Hitler's Crypto Casino Party you're trying to court

Dont be surprised if they all start quietly scaling down their use of it, eventually just stop talking abt it, all to try and save face from the scam they all took part on But don't EVER forget they never gave a shit if ppl died from the water poisoned by the datacenters, no matter what bs they say
your regular reminder that the national shoplifting crisis was a manufactured moral panic largely engineered by corporations in order to cover up their own mismanagement — and that wage theft is the largest category of theft in the U.S.
Ferguson: "Just this weekend, I was shopping at a big home improvement store to buy a drill. I had to hit a call button and wait 15 minutes for an associate to unlock a padlock. Social trust has evaporated and people are taking advantage of it, and the same is true of our federal benefit programs."

We've seen some shit from politicians on social media here in recent years, but this is close to being the most unhinged post from one I've ever seen.
The city blocked off part of our neighborhood to tear down a building w asbestos. The teen said "Why did people use asbestos if it causes cancer?!" I told him people thought it was a wonder product and used it EVERYWHERE & told him how the same thing happened w radioactivity... and now AI.
When radioactivity was discovered, there was a rush to market for all sorts of radioactive consumer goods. There were water jugs made out of uranium glass, for example. I think about that a lot these days whenever I see AI products being marketed to consumers.
They mean *you*! They mean *you*! There is no strictly delineated population of obviously bad criminals that you are obviously excluded from. You think there is because you are you, but the institutions of state violence are not you.
incroyable
OpenAI: We’re burning money like the Joker. A miracle needs to happen for us to turn a profit Microsoft: Please please use our AI systems, we’re teetering on the edge here Anthropic: I wonder what’ll kill us first: lawsuits, regulations or model collapse Media and universities: AI is here to stay
correct! This is how capitalism works. An automated "what the market will bear" except it's "what the person will bear" and not the market. Starbucks-style pricing already does this -- except this can change on the fly.
What industry calls "personalized pricing" is really *surveillance* pricing: using digital tools' flexibility to change the price for each user, and using surveillance data to guess the worst price you'll accept: pluralistic.net/2025/06/24/p... 1/
cancel your adobe subs asap and use non adobe products if you haven't already
How many thousands of people are gonna get charged $70 a month because they didn't read to the third paragraph of this fucking email
Sometimes readers are skeptical when I tell them that retailers would rather pay for self-checkout kiosks and product lockup systems and all manner of other questionable in-store tech rather than staffing because of an ideological preference for capital spending over labor spending and, well,,,
This is fucking insane
Again - BlueSky was originally Jack Dorsey’s pet project to make a Web3 social media / NFT trading post until a bunch of trans furries got ahold of invite codes and started mass-proliferating them to other trans furries and then suddenly BlueSky was 90% queers and annoying leftists and Jack fled.
two of the hardest things ever written are "face god and walk backwards into hell" and "you cannot kill me in a way that matters" one of them came from a tumblr shitpost and the other one came from a dril tweet about hollering at zoo animals the internet truly is a magical place
Don't know about Twitter, but this is my favorite Tumblr post
I’m reading War and Peace, and you know, probably a lot more people would read it if they knew just how extremely cunty the dialogue is
you notice this everywhere when you really start paying attention, and it’s totally infuriating
AOC was very famously a bartender, markwayne mullin inherited and sold a family plumbing business for millions, which of these two does the median american think to be more blue collar-coded?
"Developers who fully delegated to AI produced working code but failed conceptual quizzes afterward. They couldn't debug what the AI had written for them. They had the output without the understanding."
Adults Lose Skills to AI. Children Never Build Them.
Discussions of cognitive offloading often miss a critical distinction: What AI does to a 45-year-old's brain is categorically different from what it does to a 14-year-old's.

Notably, the statement is still a lie, because the assets were/are in the live game. Every company pulls this shit, and they're all fuckin' liars. 'We don't use genAI!' *people point out obvious genAI assets* 'We only used genAI for placeholders and they're all replaced!' Complete Bullshit.
Reminder that not only does Crimson Desert use GenAI in their game, but they didn't even include this disclosure until way after it released. Fuck GenAI. 💖
Hey if youre in the EU you should act on this ASAP, theyre really trying to ram this through
🇪🇺They’ve forced a re-vote: tomorrow at 11:00 the European Parliament votes again on #ChatControl mass scanning. Socialists and Liberals are divided, ECR now with EPP — and a quick phone call can still change minds! Last chance to call and ask: 👉 https://fightchatcontrol.eu
We have enough of a long view now to understand how much of the Silicon Valley "disruption" ethic was about destroying existing economic infrastructure, not about creating something new or better. I think about this ALL the time with Lyft and Uber and the dead cab industry.
been thinking about this a lot. journalism, books, music, and film industries, all severely damaged or destroyed by Big Tech “innovation”
Gaiman: if you are in fact, the real terry pratchett Gaiman: and not an imposter Gaiman: like the imposter sandman hector hall in The Sandman, vol. 2: The Doll's House Gaiman: then you won't have any trouble telling a joke Pratchett: [sweats] ein witz? du magst ein witz?

It's a bizarre Silicon Valley / venture capital obsession, because, by the actual numbers, audiences gobble up stuff that's far from their own experience. Squid Game, Money Heist, and other non-U.S., non-English movies/shows do incredibly well on U.S. Netflix.
I can’t even begin to comprehend the interior life of someone with the hubris and limited imagination necessary to only want to see art and media that originated within their own mind. It’s so solipsistic and arrogant while also misunderstanding the entire purpose of great art
