I posted an update regarding Mental Health and Horror in our Discord last week but I realize that not everyone can see that, so I'm sharing what I posted here on BlueSky. I will continue to do so from here on forward.

#AlanWake2 is incredible. Built upon the familiar foundations of survival horror, the game treads new territory in brilliant and charming ways while expanding, through fascinating approaches, the universe started by AW and Control. It honestly feels like the next stage of video game evolution.
I’ve spent over a year writing an exhaustive guide to Malibu’s most iconic citizen. Barbie was one of the first loves of my life and it was an honor to write 9k+ words on her impact on culture. https://www.slashfilm.com/1341484/an-exhaustive-guide-to-barbie-lore/
The Only Guide To Barbie Lore You Will Ever Need - /Film
Consider this a crash course in the fantastic, plastic life of Barbie, from controversies to crossovers and all the storytelling in between.

My stepdad's death has been difficult to process. Complicated relationships often are. But I've been missing him lately, which is confusing and painful on its own. I wrote this before he died and I needed to share it. https://medium.com/@ariel.fisher.08/sunbeams-on-a-cloudy-day-faf23f451c8a
Sunbeams On A Cloudy Day
I wrote this on April 24, 2023, two days before my stepdad Kerry Mac Con passed away.

A reminder that just because someone works regularly in the entertainment industry, that doesn't mean they are rich by any reasonable measure. Many writers of your favorite shows and actors in your favorite TV and films live hand to mouth. That is who we are fighting for.
Universal's massive blu-ray set of every one of their Classic Monster movies (that's 31 films - including Spanish DRACULA) is usually $149.98. Today it's reduced to a staggeringly low $69.99. That's $2.25 a film! https://t.co/Cgh63e5aui
Three years ago today, I married @afis8.bsky.social. I love her with all my heart and can't wait to see what the rest of our lives will bring.
PSA that it's really easy to keep copies of your work for posterity on Authory, a website I never shut up about because it's a freelance writer's dream come true in a thousand different ways. You can set it up to auto-add each new byline to your portfolio as they post.
Something very strange is happening to the Web. Finding something from the past on search engines is eroding. Atemporality replaced by an immediate, constantly vanishing, consumerist hyper-present. What we thought was an infinite Borges-ian library turning into Amazon checkout with a ticking clock…
@alexwinter.com Good on ya for making this a more inclusive and safe space for all! Kudos!

In case anyone here was still wondering about the current state of twitter:
you could easily fill a book with movies that ate absolute shit at the box office and became big moneymakers thanks to cable and rentals, prioritizing regurgitated IP over original work bc 'box office' is the equivalent of eating your seed corn
10 years ago, some friends and I ate at a local restaurant called Pacific Rim before going to the theaters for, you guessed it, Pacific Rim. We all made a pact that when the Jaeger used the ship as a weapon we would jump up and cheer. The audience was not amused but we didn't care. Love this movie.
“It’s creepy, and creepy only gets creepier with age. Scary fades. Creepy is forever. Creepy, you can’t wash away.” I asked Kyle Edward Ball all about his unnerving horror hit SKINAMARINK: https://www.rogerebert.com/interviews/the-internet-has-been-my-co-director-kyle-edward-ball-on-skinamarink
me and my friends would have killed the Skinamarink with hammers I can tell you that much

Hey Filmsky, which movies have you watched the most times in the span of a year? Easy. GREMLINS 1 and 2. I'd finish GREMLINS, rewind the tape in our 2nd VCR, and start watching GREMLINS 2. When GREMLINS 2 was over, I would swap the tapes and start again. Did that multiple times on weekends.
Hey Filmsky, which movie have you watched the most times in the span of a year? 📽 When I was a depressed teen in high school and felt like no one cared or listened, I took huge solace in the film PUMP UP THE VOLUME. I probably watched it 3 times a week for a whole year.
I’m private on Twitter for safety, and a lot of boutique labels aren’t here yet, but I want to put it out into the universe that I want to contribute an essay to a physical media release. My video essay for the REVEALER DVD was a joy to create, and I’d love to write an essay for another release.
Movies I've watched since joining Bluesky: Evil Dead (2013) - Still a banger. Eagerly awaiting the movie that combines all three books/deadites into one story. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - Liked it, didn't love it. I want to revisit it. John Wick 4 - My favorite of the franchise.
