We've won a fair amount of work by saying "You won't like our recommendations". It doesn't necessarily mean a client is more likely to take our advice. Still, we are appealingly upfront with "You're asking us how to do things differently. It's on you to *want* to do things differently."

I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them

Notetaking in meetings is tiny case in point - used to be some predictable social assumptions who would do it; now anyone can offer to do ”notetaking” by turning on the AI listener. Further interesting scenario is human recollection / notes (taken by habit by a person) conflict with AI summary

Culture is a form of data. History is a form of data. Identity is a form of data. That is enough to highlight that folks who don't have to assert themselves due to them being mainlined in society are ambivalent to the data protection of everyone else (it's the French Revolution all over again).

Jacky!@omg.jacky.wtf · 5d ago

People do care about their data; they happen to not use the same language that tech folks use when they're talking about. And frankly, we as tech folks fucked up by fighting for React and JavaScript everywhere (dev happiness) over privacy and safety (user integrity). It's our fault.

Seeing people talk about what is owed to "blue states" after this regime and like, yeah, there's definitely mistreatment going on there to deal with, but there's a lot of other shit where people have been left to suffer in so-called red states and it's part of how we got here to begin with.

Eb@ebthen.bsky.social · 10mo ago

Check my math if you want but people in "red states" are already suffering and it's not about the will of the people in "red states". It's not like if you put enough pressure on we can vote to say "Uncle!" Voters here in red states get lied to and gerrymandered and disenfranchised.

For writers worried that they won't be able to "prove" their work isn't Spicy Autocomplete--worry not. You thought about every choice and will be able to talk about those choices easily and clearly. Folks who used the slop machine didn't make choices and won't have anything to say about why

Just want to remind folks that this keeps happening. Burials of assumed-important ancients discovered to be women via genetic testing, after decades of them simply being assumed to be male. The patriarchy is incompatible with reality.

The #BronzeAge #UptonLovellShaman's burial in Wiltshire has long been considered an important religious figure & metalworker. It's been barely questioned someone of such status must be male. But now #aDNA analysis revealed that the body is in fact: a woman. 🏺 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.

You'll also hear people say "Farm workers are the real farmers!" If you really care about that? It's kinda like.... deep down you believe farmers are inherently more worthy of respect than workers. I think we're better off unpacking that, than quibbling over the definition of "real farmer."

The Trash Theory of American Politics: There is a significant electoral constituency for which Trump’s stupidity, vulgarity, and racism are big assets, because if a guy like that can be president, you too have permission. The irrational hatred of Fauci is basically the flip side of this.

Andy Craig@andycraig.bsky.social · last wk.

Aside from its many other problems, the idea Fauci was America's power-abusing covid dictator is somewhat complicated by the fact that he never had the power to do the things they're mad about. His recommendations bound nobody and were not particularly rigorously followed by the actual policymakers.

A huge powerful and empowering result of Disabled people connecting online through various social media platforms that also have non-Disabled people on them is how much we're able to normalize discussing from our perspectives what has been traditionally considered a shameful topic.

"The hurrier I go, the behinder I get." A saying from a chotchke in a shadow box in an Irish pub in Baltimore, Maryland. Feels wonderfully succinct and full'o'truth. Granted, took a bit to understand. I like hurrier & behinder as words. New words. 🤗

i really can’t believe i live in a timeline in which i am regularly required to utter the words “James Comey’s ‘8647’ seashells Instagram post indictment”
