Smoke has arrived in Seattle, but the other side of the Cascades is absolutely brutal. Wenatchee and other towns (e.g., Plain, Entiat) have been over 1,000 AQI today. Please use air purifiers, N95 masks, and avoid being outdoors if you’re able - there is no safe level of wildfire smoke exposure.
ironically I think the presence of physical media as a thing you keep forever in your home is probably going to be the difference maker here, so much 2010s-era stuff with 1M+ YouTube plays might just vanish into the ether within a generation
Update: I asked SPD about KUOW's claim that they said Barnes' travel was no different than previous chiefs. They told me that's not what they said—according to the spokesperson, SPD told KUOW his travel to major police conferences like IACP was normal, not his frequent trips to his home in Chicago.

There’s also something to how women are socialized to be suspicious of flattery — it’s how we transfer responsibility for men’s desire onto women’s bodies; we are taught to defend against that in service to our “innocence” or whatever — whereas men accept flattery as their due. Perfect marks.
West Coast cities are caught in a doom loop where the problem keeps growing but political elites refuse to admit that solving it requires more funding. Every few years someone comes along promising to "finally" crack down, gets elected and fails to deliver. That would have been worth writing about.
He ends by implying that this is an easy problem to solve if we could just drop our left-wing ideology long enough to finally impose consequences on homeless people and addicts. Not only is this unconstitutional, it's also incredibly expensive! Either way we're providing housing and services.
The core argument is that cities like Seattle are so addled by left-wing ideology that they have fallen into dystopia. In reality, the city has never adequately funded harm reduction programs and continues to rely on incarceration to address homelessness. What Powell wants is what we're doing.
Even odds this is a Salt & Straw flavor next summer.
