I think this totally fair, but in exchange I want a personal thank you letter from Clarkson for the £250,000 that his farm got from government subsidies that come from my tax money. I don't want a form letter, I want him to write it like he means it.

There’s a very good documentary about librarians standing against the current book banning in America and I’d hugely recommend it. Actually it’s probably essential. Available on iPlayer in the UK.

Sam Neill insisting on changing the Australian flag in Event Horizon, and the reasoning behind it, speaks to his character so well. For those who don't know, the reason the flag on Weir's costume has the Aboriginal flag, not the Union flag, is because Sam said he hoped by 2047 we'd have changed it.

I see Ann Widdecombe has died. When she was Home Secretary I showed her round Drake Hall womens’s prison. There was a pregnant woman on a bed in the early stages of Labour and she asked the prison officers why she wasn’t handcuffed to the bed. That’s the kind of woman she was.

I know Calvin’s dad is already having a moment, but every terrible “outsource precious and fleeting moments with your children to tech so that you can spend more time on your work” pitch makes me think of that one strip I never really cared about as a kid, but care a lot about as an adult.

The Calvin and Hobbes strip where Calvin asks his dad to come play in the snow with him. His dad initially says no, because he has to work. Then, angry at himself, his Dad goes out to build a snowman with Calvin. As the Dad works into the night to make up for it, we see Calvin’s mum lifting him up to give one of the few, if only, kisses he ever gives his dad in the Calvin and Hobbes run. His dad is content. It’s a textless comic, and it’s lovely.
