New article out in @ejprjournal.bsky.social: Why do we see such strong backlashes against carbon taxes in rural areas? We find that when rural residents feel disadvantaged by the state, a carbon tax feels like a punishment on top of a punishment: a "double disadvantage." 👉 tinyurl.com/3rhmvar7

My former job @mpifg.bsky.social now comes with a tenure track. I'm obviously biased, but this is a great opportunity for comparative/international political economists and an important milestone for the MPIfG (see Philipp's thread). Happy to answer questions about what the job was like for me!

Is a deep freeze coming?

The Atlantic ocean current that keeps northern Europe warm is in danger of collapsing. Compared with threats of war and disease, it is given relativel...

One point I agree with: taxing the rich was never the big money machine progressives hoped for. But there is an important part missing here: low taxes on the rich corrode public support for broad-based taxation. This can undermine the fiscal sustainability of the state. 👉 cup.org/45lgPwN
