I reported on the story for @rollingstone.com in April, when the court asked the DOJ's lawyer if the Trump administration had followed the law when it terminated the grants, he replied, “That’s a complicated question.” Apparently, not too complicated. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...
The problem is that as we're seeing with the Strait of Hormuz, "the USA forfeits its global ambitions" does not lead to a new age of peace and sunshine, but to global recession and instability. The Strait of Hormuz is not the only load-bearing instance of US power backstopping modern economies.

I prefer purpleair.com's map since it updates every few seconds (be sure to use the US EPA "Apply conversion" option). EPA airnow.gov data updates only once per hour and is up to a 12-hour average, so does not show rapidly changing conditions as well.
Sweet bleeding Mithras, almost everything is SO MUCH BETTER than it was 40 years ago. Air travel I grant you (with the exception of SMOKING ON PLANES). But medical technology? The availability of so many foods? Air pollution? It's just so much better now.

Rooftop solar hardwires into your main panel via a dedicated breaker, so it requires a permit, an installer, an electrician, and a utility agreement. Balcony solar just plugs into a wall outlet, sharing an existing circuit with no permits or rewiring.

The emergency response to Spokane fires has been exemplary and heroic. We also need to remember this isn’t the limit of our ability to reduce wildfire risk. After 100 years of strict fire suppression, millions of acres of WA forest need fuel reduction treatments like prescribed fire & thinning.

Responders, city, county and fed officials. Detection and warning systems. Everyone did their jobs very well. This was a best case outcome.
