Very heartening news out of Missouri and Kansas. I know all of us here are by definition Terminally Online, but it gives me a lot of hope for the future of our country that folks are rejecting blatant authoritarianism and crony corporatism more and more.

Organizing yet more photos of my dad for a celebration of life we’re soon hosting in Pittsburgh and struck by the immense narrative difference between old film roll or Polaroid candids and the infinite retakes we get with ultra high-def iPhones. Simply changes the nature of memory and history.

Noise. Pollution. The Ozone Layer. Acid Rain. AIDS treatment. Cancer cures. Crime rates. Child abductions. As much as we consume doom and gloom in our media, humans are very, very good at solving problems when we want to. We just have to want to.

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

I have little to add to the chat, but I will say this: Those of us who spend a lot of time talking about politics overestimate how much other people care about, or are even familiar with, the labels we use to describe, denigrate, or celebrate candidates. Sometimes we’re high on our own supply.
