Every time some asshole says that men "gave" us a right, I think about how quickly they would love to take it away. They didn't give us shit. Women fought and sometimes DIED for what we have. The patriarchy will fall. Apply all the CPR you want, bro. I'm still gonna spit on its grave.

HHS is canceling infant mortality and postpartum grants to focus instead on research related to what the department says are “root causes” like sperm counts and erectile dysfunction. https://www.notus.org/health-science/hhs-cancels-infant-mortality-postpartum-grants-focus-infertility

Filling out more Anthropic Settlement paperwork, and I still find the paltry sum each of us is getting to be totally galling. Anthropic stole the life's work of thousands of people, and they get to continue making money off of our work in perpetuity, and each of us get maybe a couple grand, tops.

The manosphere dudes all do this thing where they pronounce "women" the same as "woman" and where are they getting that? Boys, "women" is pronounced WHIM-mihn. I'd say you're embarrassing yourselves, but not knowing how to pronounce words isn't shameful. Hating women is though.

It was never going to stop with Jason Arday. Our resident Bluesky creeper Ben Ryan is now turning his attacks onto Jason Arday's students--no doubt the fact that the student is a Black woman has nothing to do with Ryan and Wright's apparent concern for "academic rigor"

Cambridge Said Jason Arday Was an ‘Aberration.’ So Why Was the Shaky PhD Thesis He Approved Sealed Until 2031?

and I obtained a Cambridge PhD thesis—one of questionable academic rigor—that Dr. Arday examined and that was put under a new, five-year embargo just after the scandal about Dr. Arday broke.

The PhD thesis of a student in Cambridge’s Faculty of Education—in which the late Jason Arday held a professorial chair, in the sociology of education, until he resigned hours after Cambridge on Aug. 5 announced it was investigating him—has been put under what British and Canadian academics have told Colin Wright and me is a remarkably long embargo, shielding it from public view until 2031.

Crucially, among the panelists who reviewed the thesis was Dr. Arday himself.

The thesis, which we have obtained and which we review in this Substack, raises important questions about whether the Faculty of Education, including Dr. Arday’s own contributions, let down the basic standards of higher education.Written by Damilola Folayan, the thesis is entitled Of, but not in: A poetic exploration of how Black women students respond to the coloniality of Oxbridge—referring to the portmanteau of Oxford and Cambridge. It garnered her a coveted Cambridge PhD in 2025. Following what’s known as an autoethnographic style, it is in essence an epic poetry-slam interpretation of the plight of Dr. Folayan and three other black women at Oxbridge and their experiences navigating, with considerable ambivalence, these historically, and still overwhelmingly, white elite institutions.

The sprawling thesis unabashedly thumbs its nose at the rigors and demands of academia even as it demands in return an elite PhD and all the rights and privileges pertaining thereto.

seen some jokes out here that made me feel uncomfortable, so just going to put it out there that one of the harder things about brain injury is seeing people treat it like a punchline

Never underestimate the impact of a small act of kindness. Wear a mask. Donate to a food bank. Give to a community library. Deliver supplies to a disabled or elderly neighbour. Plant a garden. There are things you can do to help, and every act of kindness is resistance.

It's been in the high 90s for the last week. It's not supposed to get back down into the high 80s until *next* weekend. It's September. Fuck everyone who ignores climate change and pretends it's not happening so they can get theirs, and fuck everyone who did it before them, starting with Reagan.

I think we are, alas, also going to have to request that in cases in which a known bad actor files a request should create a reason to make that person provide proof of ownership in ALL instances, not just the disputed ones.
