If you want more Patrick Stewarts, then you publicly fund the arts and learning programs, so that working class kids can find their way into making a career in them.

Citizens United is as close to a unified theory of why everything got worse in recent memory
Insane!
Solar has overtaken nuclear. A decade ago it supplied 1% of the world's power. In 2025 it met three quarters of global demand growth. Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why. www.bbc.co.uk/future/artic...
'It's offensively cheap': How solar power is quietly becoming bigger than nuclear
After defying projections, solar's dramatic growth means it is overtaking nuclear as a global power source. Here are seven reasons for solar's success, and where it might go from here.

"I am not responsible for the version of myself that someone else created in their mind" is the most powerful life lesson I've ever learned.
omidyar bought the distributor that released the musk documentary and then immediately withdrew it from theaters
Controversial "Musk" Documentary Pulled From Almost Every One of 472 Theaters After One Week by Newly Sold Bleecker Street Films - Showbiz411
Alex Gibney's "Musk" movie is pretty much gone. Released October 9th to four theaters, it expanded to 472 last Friday. And now, one week later it's gone

Ooh, ooh, maths nerds! Today is 24th October 2026, and… 24² + 10² = 26² It’s a Pythagorean day! They only happen rarely. I don’t think there’ll be another one this century.
This is the answer to the 'if it's genocide why doesn't Israel just wipe out all Palestinians in an afternoon?' question - it's because if they did you'd always remember the day that happened. Go slowly and the 'small' acts of everyday genocide become background noise for a lot of people.
I am reminded of a point made by @jkass99.bsky.social when he came on the show: that the objective of genocidal politics is not simply the destruction of a group in part or in whole but to transform the political, social, cultural and historical landscape so it is as though they never even existed.
acid rain ozone hole leaded gas smoking food is way better (quality and variety) solar power is way cheaper and more efficient batteries are WAY way cheaper and more efficient HIV isn't a death sentence even despite backlash, current support of LGBTQIA+ rights would've been unthinkable in the '90s
Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?
We need to preserve this: we've lost so many monumental queer locations already! “[A historical marker] exists and is ready to be installed as a visible reminder that Atlanta’s queer community has been fighting for equality and visibility for decades.” roughdraftatlanta.com/2026/10/23/n...
Vote delayed on demolition of LGBTQ+ historic site
Atlanta's NPU-F deferred a vote on demolishing the site of Michael Hardwick's 1982 arrest, which helped overturn sodomy laws.

Atlanta folks! Important constitutional law history— and LGBTQ history— is in danger. The house where Bowers v. Hardwick all started is on the verge of being demolished. Email the Zoning Board and your council member asking them to protect it. Application # V-26-135 bza-hearings@atlantaga.gov

hey hey, are you having a great friday?
I didn't ascend to the astral plane when Mastodon played songs from Crack the Skye at the Eastern tonight, but I'm excited for the folks who did!

@gabifrost.bsky.social yup you also can walk or ride on the Beltline from Little Five Points to Ponce City Market to Piedmont Park. There are quite some lovely views and art pieces throughout the passage.
The usual tourist spots are the aquarium and world of coke. If you have transportation, there's a lot of cool restaurants and shops at Ponce City Market in Midtown. Also a lot of interesting shops and food at Little Five Points, all walking distance from each other.
the games industry is the one software vertical that makes products people actually want to pay good money to use -- for a finite and pretty short duration even -- and somehow can't figure out how to make a going concern out of it
This misrepresents their own work - PHP has had these bugs since 2012 and multiple orgs had identified vulnerabilities around memory limits and worker re-use. What OpenAI did was quickly build an exploit out of them and then barfed it up before people could patch. 100% asshole move.
“the internet is a store but it used to be a library but before that it was a DARPA funded decentralized military network designed to maintain command structures after a nuclear war”
Today’s PHP security risks got me thinking about how I could have been more vulnerable with you. Perhaps we can patch things up and be there 4 one another.
RIP Richard Riehle. I think I'll rewatch THE MAN FROM EARTH (2007) in memoriam.
Perhaps the most Bluesky thing I’ve seen in awhile is not just one tribute to character actor Richard Riehle with hundreds of likes but several tributes to character actor Richard Riehle with hundreds of likes

absolutely too excited to not share a sneak preview of what i'm working on. this is Loyd Powell and Robert Conn, who run the Heart of Leather foundation in Houston. yesterday, they took me to their storage units filled with LGBTQ+ history artifacts from Houston and across Texas.
Because porn is a critical part of queer history. It was some of the only queer-owned media and a radical and positive documentation of sexuality at a time when it was being violently suppressed elsewhere.
I spent an afternoon with Loyd Powell and Robert Conn, who run the Heart of Leather Foundation in Houston. Their dream is to open a museum of LGBTQ history. Until then, they have over 35,000 artifacts sitting in storage, and they let me see them: www.chron.com/culture/arti...
