In 2026, each person in the UK on average experienced almost 12 days of temperatures >30c. To put this summer in context, the oft-quoted "hot summer" yardstick of 1976 had a number just short of 7 days. In absolute numbers, there were ~700m "person days" >30c compared to 1976's ~380m.

At the Dublin City Council meeting last night not a *single* councillor was willing to defend this price hike. Not even the ones from the government parties. I am hopeful that this is a leading indicator for a U-turn from govt.

I get up early in the morning and drop off to a creche and then get public transport to work. They lied about bringing the cost of one down, they've just hiked the second.
A significant contributor to the gender pay gap and the continuing financial disparity between men and women is the undervaluing of all of the unpaid care work done by women in Ireland. Women all over Ireland get up early, every morning, and go to work, unpaid and unvalued.

The Paris Agreement set out the plausible and possible things to do in order to keep the global warming to 1.5C. The problem was the timeframe- which meant almost none of the participants would be in power when the reckoning arrived. So they could just say the plan was to do it all later.
