Will we see you today at 2pm for the City Council vote on the junk fees ban? The commission supports the bill, including the amendments that help renters with compensation (A&E) and we oppose the amendments that would allow landlords to charge pet rent and opt renters into their insurance (C&D)

Two commissioners pose for a selfie. Behind, there are people holding signs supporting banning junk fees

The bill to ban rental junk fees will be voted on by City Council tomorrow, Tue. 8/11 at 2pm! The commission supports a ban on rental junk fees. We oppose allowing pet rent, even with a cap, and also to oppose allowing renters to be automatically enrolled for renters insurance (amendments C and D).

Ah yes, all of the renters who couldn't afford to take time off in the middle of the workday to testify love paying fees on top of rent 🙄 The final council vote on the junk fees ban is this Tue, 8/11 at 2pm. There are a couple of bad amendments that renters need to push back on in public comment.

Landlord, Michael E Heijer accidentally CCed the entire Seattle city council, asking fellow landlords to testify against rental junk fee banning. Said renters who testified in favor of banning junk fees were the “unemployed left trying to stick it to the man.” Still think this isn’t a class war?

Thanks Wes;
I wrote a similar one and sent it, but didn't cc anyone as I am not sure how they treat that.
I met with Lake Union Partners yesterday and they had a group of developers speaking in front of the Seattle City Council complaining about this item. They were a handful of people who spoke against it, and then the unemployed left of course had a whole bunch of people trying to "stick it to the man" as they want other people pay for their living accommodations.
Very sad.
So, Jack, Nevin et al please keep writing more emails to them so they know that we don't like this at all and keep some pressure on them
Thanks and have a great weekend all.

PSA: if we were voting on Harrell, and ONLY these ballot that were received as of Ryan’s post (3 days before Election Day) were counted, the vote would be 58% Harrell. Get your asses out and vote. Drop it in a drop box, too late for mail kingcounty.gov/en/dept/elec...

It's time to post the current election turnout breakdown by age bracket chart again and remind you that ballots are due by Tuesday!

65+ turnout is 30.98% and 18-44 is all below 10%

Made this professional grade guide to explain who should use lefty cheat sheet. If you find yourself a hater of it, it means it’s not for u lol like hello ppl, it’s not supposed to replace fuse. Why would it lol Hmm I prob could’ve made it more legible but I did it in 1 min. Next time lol

Best voting guide 4 u

Left: leftycheatsheet.org and the urbanist. Use if your fave Seattle city councilmember is Alexis Rinck or Eddie Lin. If your fave national politician is Mamdani or AOC.

Center: fuse voter guide. Use if your fave seattle councilmember is Joy Hollingsworth. If your fave national politician is Biden.

Right: Seattle times. Use if your fave Seattle councilmember is Maritza Rivera. If your fave national politicians are Trump, Vance, desantis, rfk jr etc 😵

Are you voting this weekend? Wondering how lefty organizers on the ground are thinking about this primary? ElectionCheatSheet.org has you covered no matter the level of detail! Switch from a quick voter guide, to deep research on each lefty orgs’ endorsement pages, in just a few taps!

Two column cheatsheet view: a quick glance at each race in ballot order, along with how much lefty orgs’ endorsements are in agreement: 100% mean everyone is endorsing the same person, <50% means they can’t agree

This is the worst misinfo these folks have pushed to date IMO. That somehow we’ll lose public spaces and parks if we add housing. Everyone knows u aren’t allowed to build housing in those places. Could it be that they really think this? They’ve cooked their brains so badly I’m genuinely not sure 🤔

The @seattleparksfoundation.org is a founding member of the Green Neighborhoods Coalition, bringing together groups like Tree Action Seattle to oppose @mayorofseattle.bsky.social Katie Wilson's comprehensive plan proposals and concentrate density along Seattle's busiest corridors.

Seattle Parks Foundation has become a founding member of the Green Neighborhoods Coalition, a new coalition of parks, green space, housing, and tree protection advocates united around a simple belief: Seattle can grow and expand housing without sacrificing the parks, trees, greenways, and public spaces that make our city livable. The coalition is focused on greening up Seattle’s Comprehensive Plan, which is a major 20-year plan to establish City growth. If you’d like to join this coalition and stay aware of current issues, sign up on the Green Neighborhoods Coalition website.

This campaign is going to need strong community support to make sure it passes without getting watered down! Can you help us table at farmers markets, host a meeting with your neighbors, hang flyers, or make art?

Devin’s vision of a future where everyone has a safe, affordable home and is treated with dignity is what brought me to this work. It's been an honor to continue working toward this shared vision! I don't have a photo from the event, but my then-11-year-old niece did this drawing of me that day

A child's drawing of a woman with brown hair and blue eyes wearing a blue t-shirt and jeans. It is titled "Kate w/ make-up"

In a little over a month, it will be the 10 year anniversary of the founding of @beseattleorg.bsky.social. It is amazing to see the impact the organization has had on the lives & political cultural landscape of Seattle, even under the radar. Just for fun, here's a photo from a kickoff even in 2016.
