Transit advocate, hockey fan ... BC transplant now living in Ottawa and fighting to build a better city. I have family in Minneapolis so I'm watching the occupation and their resistance carefully. Much love to those fighting back.

There's a kind of environmentalist who argues that unless you're going all-in on environmental mitigation, you're not doing enough. I think that ends up fueling doomerism. People say, well I can't get around by bike or bus so I might as well drive a gas guzzler.

I used Skip the Dishes once, several years ago. They fucked up my order, cancelled one item and only gave me a 'credit' after complained. This past weekend, I tried to order from a restaurant in Montreal and they directed me to Skip the Dishes so I tried again ...

If you show up to Bluesky without following anyone, you'll be treated to a series of posts about art, music, and dogs. If you show up to X without following anyone, you'll be bombarded with right-wing conspiracies and white supremacist slop. It's weird which one is seen as a "political bubble"

I had a commenter on one of my posts insist that it's impossible that Mark Carney is worse for the climate than Harper was, and having taken the time to respond at length, I thought I should share that as a thread because it's clearly not just one person operating under that false belief. 🧵1/

On this day in 1944, the Gestapo found Anne Frank and her family in their Secret Annex. Her diary stands as a warning against hatred and persecution. Eighty years later, we should recognize the warning signs before it’s too late.🙂‍↕️

Pre-Covid, I always thought the 1918 flu memories were just overshadowed by WWI. But now, it’s clearly something about pandemics that just do things to collective memory. I don’t know whether this is unique to modernity but it‘s clear that humans react differently to this type of trauma.
