🚨 NEW REPORT: Today, I'm proud to launch ‘Changing the Narrative – Ending the Acceptance of Road Death in London’ 👉 www.london.gov.uk/caroline-rus... To mark the launch, I’m hosting a roundtable at City Hall today with campaigners, bereaved families, crash survivors, policy experts, TfL and more.
Lambeth Living Streets
@lambethlivingst.bsky.social
The campaign for Lambeth to have safe, calm, fun, healthy streets lined by trees, enjoyed by all & sustainable forever.
Last night 80+ residents & businesses came together for a positive & collaborative meeting about the Tulse Hill gyratory with Helen Hayes MP, councillor Olga FitzRoy, @labourmarina.bsky.social, The Norwood Forum & others. Lots of great ideas & people keen to get involved in transforming Tulse Hill
Families and friends enjoying a drink after work. Tiny kids playing football. Schoolchildren relaxing outside the shop. Elm Park is unrecognisable from a few years ago! @lambethlivingst.bsky.social @rezinachowdhury.bsky.social
Imagine a town centre in Tulse Hill where people linger, shop, and connect—not just pass through. A new street layout could boost footfall and breathe new life into Tulse Hill businesses. Let's fix the gyratory. Join our public meeting on Weds 23 July at 7pm. #SupportLocal #TransformTulseHill
We closed Abbeville Road in Clapham to cars for a few hours today and something truly radical and transformative happened. We saw a community grow. People came out to chat, laugh, listen, gossip, eat, drink and share. Just proves that streets are for people not just for cars.
🚨Delighted to announce that we will install a new zebra crossing on Emmanuel Road outside Telferscot Primary School as part of our commitment to reduce road danger, especially for children! Works will take place over the summer holidays & be done by start of September
Walworth LTNs making it easier and safer for construction workers to get to site by bike, bravo @lb-southwark.bsky.social @jamesmcash.bsky.social
35% fewer collisions & 36% fewer casualties on London roads that have been dropped to new 20mph limit. No evidence it increases congestion. www.standard.co.uk/news/transpo...
More 20mph roads on way for London after injuries and collisions are cut by a third
Research commissioned by TfL on the safety benefits of 20mph has given the green light for more speed cuts

We love these pencil bollards that are popping up around schools in London, allocating the space for kids not cars. 👁️ So far spotted in Southwark & Lambeth. Have you seen any near you! ? @lambethlivingst.bsky.social @southwarkls.bsky.social @jamesmcash.bsky.social @rezinachowdhury.bsky.social
"Harker’s arguments simply don’t fit with either the benefits of low-traffic neighbourhoods that we see every day, or with the increasing body of evidence that they improve people’s lives." Well said, @heatherglass.bsky.social and @jonbromwich.bsky.social of @lambethlivingst.bsky.social

Good to see that The Guardian has published Living Streets’ spot on response to the thoroughly disappointing and misleading opinion piece last week.

My first time walking around the CONGESTION RELIEF ZONE on a non bone-chilling day and I am in love. Dramatic improvement. Here is 42nd & Madison — unfathomable that this usual clusterf*** of cars at this hour is this clear. As you can see however by the crosswalk, Manhattan is a ghost town now 🤣
Don't leave us out in the cold! We hear a lot about the importance of gritting carriageways when it's snowy and icy, but pavements are often forgotten. We're calling on local authorities to grit and clear pavements too, so we can all walk and wheel safely this winter.
I'm writing a book chapter on disability and active travel. I think a section will be on the unsung infrastructures of active travel for disabled people. Benches. Public toilets and changing places. Accurate and accessible information provision. What else?
Alongside our partners, we are very proud of the positive impacts on #InclusiveCycling and #ActiveTravel that the #Wheels4Me scheme is having for disabled people.

The #schoolrun is one big onion! 🧅 🧅 Layers of journeys made by different modes for different reasons. 🧅 One layer is primary school journeys of over 1 mile. 65% of these journeys in London are driven. 🧅 How to solve this layer??…… Enter the family #Cargo bike.. @rezinachowdhury.bsky.social
All these people, young and old, have a physical disability in one way or another. And yet, thanks to cycling infrastructure, they can easily navigate the streets.
Unless they're disabled. The car free world is for young able bodied people who can easily navigate those streets. Yuppie heaven.
Did you know that bollards* and planters can make people’s lives better? That’s exactly what’s been happening in Levenshulme and Burnage – we paid a visit to find out how. *If you follow @worldbollardassoc.bsky.social, you knew this already.

When people park selfishly across pavements they make life incredibly difficult for people in wheelchairs and many others We headed out with @pamthomas01.bsky.social to see the challenges she faces on a daily basis because of this selfish behaviour www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpo...

💥London’s cycling boom continues💥 📈New data shows bike journeys in the capital are up 26% since 2019 to 1.33m every day 🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🥳💚💚 We’ll keep work with boroughs to make more streets safer and enable even more Londoners to get around on 2 (or 3) wheels 🚲🙂🚲
It is probably time for this to get its first airing on this platform Nearly 60% of car journeys in the UK are under 5 miles. There's a better tool for the job. For short journeys, #BikeIsBest.

“Bikes shouldn’t be on the pavement”… Is something that gets said often. And we agree! Family #cargobikes can be large and expensive. They need to be stored securely on the road and safely off the pavement. A #CargoSleighBay for Christmas please! #bikeparking @rezinachowdhury.bsky.social
