• What better time to get in on the "twitter" game? • Disillusioned Yank -> aspiring Canuck • Looking for an escape, hoping for bluer skies.

The audacity's the point, tbh. This is the last possible moment where a hostile takeover might stand a chance at succeeding. In two years Schumer stands a good chance of having ending the Iran war, multiple indictments, and even an impeachment or two under his belt. It's built on panic.

Insisting Chuck Schumer be replaced 48 hours after winning Senate seats in Texas, Kansas, Iowa, Ohio, South Carolina, Alaska, and Mississippi is genuinely so stupid it boggles my mind. Probably the greatest peak of ingratitude I've ever seen in politics.

Republicans currently have a bigger majority than Biden ever had, but they haven't managed to pass a single major piece of legislation with it. Not the SAVE Act. Abortion ban. Repealing Obamacare. Nothing. Jeffries and Schumer have run a masterclass in obstruction from the minority.

Super agree with this. I think an interesting strategy to square the circle on the anti-AI sentiment while respecting its role in the economy is to target Elon, specifically. Do normal regulatory oversight on OAI, Anthropic, etc. But try to make Elon specifically the face of tech accountability.

I think it's a massive analysis error to group Musk in with the rest of the tech class, even if there's some cross-pollination of brainworms. He funded half Trump's campaign and assumed he had bought his own federal government he could remake following the same model of how he purged Twitter.

Sorry to be a downer. But it makes me sad and angry how many adults apparently needed to touch the stove. I just hope voters remember the lessons of 2024 for decades, or at longer than 2-8 years.

Oh, I forgot the climate side: even at 50-50, Biden still passed the IRA, the Green New Deal in all but name. At 56/254, Dems pass the entire rest of Build Back Better with it, and Manchin can't kill the Clean Electricity Performance Program or force oil-and-gas lease tie-ins.

I’ve seen people saying they think the results on Tuesday were basically just a referendum on the economy or even more narrowly on gas prices, but I don’t think the scale of things backs that up at all. I don’t want to get too far out over my skis, but I think it’s a way deeper revulsion than that.

I don’t think you get a swing like we saw between 2024 and 2026 *just* from gas prices going up., or even prices going up in general. The war in Iran largely caused that but I don’t think it’s only the price piece that people object to about it.

I think all of the ICE stuff shocked the consciences even of people who voted enthusiastically for what they thought Trump would do with ICE. The corruption mattered. Knocking down half of the White House and building monuments to himself mattered.
